The Cubot KingKong Power 5 has officially launched. The phone is offered for $205 via import on Aliexpress, which supposedly constitutes a discount of 39% relative to MSRP. Before ordering, prospective buyers should make themselves familiar with the disadvantages of importing phones, as enforcing warranty claims can be difficult or virtually impossible. That said, Cubot smartphones often become available on Amazon sooner or later.
In any case, the rugged phone comes with two mentionable features, namely a powerful speaker and multiple flashlights. There's a flashlight with a flood beam and an additional flashlight with two LEDs at the top of the phone. Meanwhile, the speaker is located on the back and can hit up to 136dB thanks to 5 watts of power. Rather typical for a rugged smartphone is the large 15,300mAh battery, which can be charged at up to 33 watts. However, at 0.97 inches thick and a weight of almost 19 oz, the KingKong Power 5 is undoubtedly a bulky phone. On the other hand, the chassis meets the IP68, IP69K and MIL-STD-810H standards, and the phone should be able to survive drops from up to 6.56 ft.
Cubot’s new smartphone is further powered by the MediaTek Helio G100 SoC, which does not support 5G connectivity and is paired to 6GB RAM. Android 15 is preinstalled on the 128GB internal storage, and storage expansion via microSD is supported. The KingKong Power 5 also features an 6.88-inch HD+ display with 120Hz and Gorilla Glass, the latter of which fits the KingKong moniker quite well. Moreover, the main camera has a resolution of 64 megapixels, while the front camera has 16 megapixels. NFC and Google Play are supported, as fingerprint unlocking. The mobile device has two card slots, so users must choose between dual SIM and microSD storage expansion. Last but not least, a customizable button is also onboard.
