Honor 8 to receive Android 7.0 OTA update starting February 11th
We mentioned earlier last month that Android 7.0 Nougat had finally arrived for owners of the Huawei Honor 8. Nonetheless, users had to manually download the software update via the special HiCare app as the manufacturer was not yet ready to begin rolling out the update in OTA form. Now, Honor 8 users can expect the global OTA rollout to finally start this coming February 11th.
In addition to Android 7.0, the update will also provide the latest version of Huawei's Emotion UI software. New features include "big aperture" mode for video recording and "App Twin" for allowing multiple instances of one app to run on a single Honor 8 smartphone. Huawei is promising improved data management, better memory usage, and optimized processor utilization as well. Additionally, the general issue of data fragmentation has been further reduced by outright denying less important applications constant access to RAM. Apps may run 20 percent faster than before the update and overall system performance may run up to 80 percent faster than a competing Android smartphone according to the manufacturer.
Other changes include a more streamlined UI for faster day-to-day operation compared to EMUI 4.1. Certain onscreen colors are now Blue instead of White to further distinguish EMUI 5.0 from its previous iterations.
