HP Envy 13-aq0005ng

Just as much as the name itself suggests, the HP Envy 13 is a 13-inch model. There are evident improvements catered towards its clientele’s satisfaction. Not only customers can now experience the enhancement in visuals through the replacement of a better graphics card, the Envy 13 also capitalizes on several intriguing but crucial elements waiting to be explored by its audience. Before mentioning the specifics in question, the HP Envy 13 measures as thin as 14.7 millimeter and weighs approximately 1.179 kilograms. It is perhaps one of the lightest, if not sleekest, premium laptop design to avail itself to the market. For some peculiar reason, the HP Envy 13’s design alone has yet to receive any celebratory applause from the global audience. It seemed to be the case that the majority of the tech-savvy community has seen their fair share of ultra-thin laptops and has become less and less awed by the prospect of it. However, the HP Envy 13 does not solely rely on its physical design alone as its selling point, but rather, on how it methodically works its way around in managing user’s privacy concerns. The HP Envy 13 houses innovative security features, which guarantee to add an extra precautionary measure towards its clientele’s privacy concerns through the introduction of the Webcam Kill Switch as an optional safeguard functionality. The Webcam Kill Switch effectively cuts off the power linking to the front-facing camera of the monitor screen and thus prevents potential hackers or snoopers from gazing into our personal lives. Intrusion of privacy through digital means has been a recurring controversial issue and a grave concern in Western culture as it has been made aware to modern society that there could be someone on the other end of the screen who ought to be constantly monitoring our daily life. HP has taken this into account through the debut of the Webcam Kill Switch in one of their more established laptop units under the banner of the Spectre series back in 2018. Since then, the considerate progressiveness of the Webcam Kill Switch has availed itself to HP’s later releases, including but not limited to, the HP Envy 13. In addition, the HP Envy 13 also has a built-in biometric fingerprint reader designed as an alternative unlock feature should the user ever by happenstance forgot the security code to access their laptop. This feature will undoubtedly be a hit among students, whose grades mostly rely on the dependency on how well their laptops can operate from the get-go. Needless to say, memorizing passwords is one less thing crossed off from a long stressful to-do-list. Hands-on article by Jagadisa Rajarathnam

HP Envy 13 review: A slim, light, and inexpensive workhorse with discrete graphics
Source: Good Gear Guide English Archive.org version
Peppy quad-core processor? Check. Bright 4K display? Yup. Slim and light? Double-check. We’ll also go ahead and check off discrete graphics, the comfy keyboard, and more important, the reasonable price tag. So yes, this configuration of the HP Envy 13 has a lot going for it, making it a great companion during a demanding trip to Las Vegas for CES. That said, the niggling trackpad was an annoying pebble in my shoe, and we're anxious to hear what HP's investigation turns up.

The HP Envy 13t puts a lot into one package, going premium in many ways while keeping the price well below some of its competitors. The laptop’s design earns it plenty of credit, and its overall performance leaves little to be desired outside of serious multi-core workloads. Among its contemporaries, the HP Envy 13t is an excellent-value Ultrabook. But, with Intel Ice Lake and Intel Comet Lake CPUs showing up, the Ultrabook market is likely to get a lot more competitive soon.

Best of all, the Envy 13 starts at a reasonable $799, which is hundreds less than the competition. In many ways, the Envy 13 is what we wanted the new MacBook Air to be.

Most important of all, though, the HP Envy 13 is still a beacon of fiscal reasonableness in a sea of metal laptops that start at over £1000 (this one is meant to, by SRP, but it's available for much less).

90% HP Envy 13 (2019) review: HP proves its design chops
Source: Neowin English Archive.org version
The HP Envy 13 is a dream to use, and it comes in a beautiful chassis. I'd complain about the lack of Thunderbolt 3 and the lack of an IR camera if it were a Spectre x360, but it's not. This is a step below that. The only real downside is the battery life, and you can always make up for that by getting the 1080p model. You're never going to get great battery life on a 4K laptop, no matter which one you choose.

HP might not have changed the design of the Envy 13 much for 2019 but generally it didn't need to as it still looks and feels great. Importantly, this is still an affordable Windows 10 laptop with impressive specs including an Nvidia MX250 graphics cards where many rivals rely on integrated GPUs. We're also impressed with improvements to the trackpad, screen and battery life.

HP Envy 13-aq0003ng

Hewlett Packard’s Envy series is widely regarded by the community as being one step below the much coveted Spectre x360 series of impressive convertibles. However, that does not necessarily mean the lineup itself is lacking in its entirety. The HP Envy 13-aq0003ng laptop model in particular has shown some promise, which may or may not surprise the user when utilized with utmost care. This is due to the fact that the HP Envy 13-aq0003ng is jam-packed with relatively powerful core components within itself while at the same time being marketed at an affordable price range. As we delve upon the wonders of the HP Envy 13-aq0003ng, it is almost dismissive to not acknowledge its convertible display size. The Envy 13-aq0003ng laptop is only measured to be 13.3 inch on a 16:9 aspect ratio. Being a laptop model just below an average of 14 inch awarded the HP Envy 13-aq0003ng with the reputed title of being one of the smallest and lightest subnotebooks within the competitive laptop industry. In addition, the HP Envy 13-aq0003ng is not exempted from the exclusivity of intelligent security features that are designed to safeguard the user’s data and privacy from potential attacks across the Internet. These intelligent security features include the Webcam Kill Switch, which functions as a one-tap power button that cuts off the power connecting to the front camera of the HP Envy 13-aq0003ng with effective immediacy. This security feature is undoubtedly valuable for users who tend to carry out tasks or meetings through video calls on a day-to-day basis as they can protect their privacy concerns through the minimization of public exposure on their behalf. What would be interesting to discover within the HP Envy 13-aq0003ng is the fact that even though this particular model is designed towards a more business-oriented demographic of clientele, the inclusion of an Nvidia GeForce MX250 inside of the device makes sufficient room for some leisure and light gaming. This is due to the fact that the Nvidia GeForce MX250 is a graphics processor unit which possesses somewhat of a reputation of its own. With graphics rendering competency from a gaming brand which has secured the top spot of the world, the Nvidia GeForce MX250 is proven to have recorded up to 3.5 times faster performance over integrated graphics for not only through the launch of multimedia applications, but it also provides a faster and smoother gaming experience for those who are keen to try their hands on some of the latest gaming titles. 84.5% HP Envy 13 Review: A well-rounded subnotebook with a good number of features | Notebookcheck
HP's 13.3-inch subnotebook scores a lot of points for its slim and elegant exterior. Its inside values are impressive as well: a quad-core processor, a dedicated GeForce GPU and 8 GB of RAM (in dual-channel mode). Most importantly, the device's very bright IPS screen also supports HP's Sure View screen-protection technology.

HP: Founded in 1939, the US company is a major server and printer manufacturer and one of the leading IT companies in the world. Until 2015, the company was called Hewlett-Packard Company. After a split, the computer division was renamed HP Inc.

In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

NVIDIA GeForce MX250: Successor of the MX150 and still based on the same Pascal GP108 chip (similar to the desktop GT 1030) but with higher clock speeds. Available in two versions, a normal 25 Watt version and a low power version with 10 Watt TDP and reduced performance. The 25 Watt version e.g. offers a 21% higher boost clock than the old MX150 leading to a 5% performance gain.

Intel UHD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2, 24 EUs) found on some Kaby-Lake-Refresh CPU models (15 W ULV series). Technically identical to the previous Kaby-Lake GPU called HD Graphics 620.

Intel Iris Plus Graphics G7 (Ice Lake 64 EU): Integrated graphics card in Intel Ice-Lake G7 SoCs based on the new Gen. 11 architecture with 64 EUs (Execution Units / Shader Cluster). The clock rate depends on the processor model ranging from 300 MHz base to 1050 - 1100 MHz boost. The Ice-Lake chips are produced in the modern 10nm process at Intel produced.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

i7-8565U: Whiskey Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Kaby Lake but produced in a further improved 14nm++ process). The four cores are clocked between 1.8 and 4.6 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading.

Intel Core i5:

i5-8265U: Whiskey Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Kaby Lake but produced in a further improved 14nm++ process). The four cores are clocked between 1.6 and 3.9 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading.

Intel Comet Lake:

i5-10210U: Comet Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Whiskey Lake and still produced in 14nm++). The CPU cores can clock between 1.6 and 4.2 GHz (all 4 cores 3.9 GHz max.) with HyperThreading (8 threads). The integrated memory controller supports LPDDR4-2933 and using cTDP up/down the performance can be adjusted by the OEM (10 - 25 Watt possible, 15W default). Compared to the faster i5-10510U, the level 3 cache was reduced from 8 to 6 MB.

Intel Ice Lake:

i7-1065G7: Ice Lake-based quad-core processor for thin and light laptops. The four cores are clocked at 1.3 GHz to 3.9 GHz and should offer 18% more IPC (instructions per clock) than the previous generations (and therefore partly close the clock speed gap). Produced on first-gen 10 nm Intel process.
