We were excited when HP announced the revival of the Compaq Presario brand earlier this year. Here was the promise of a family of basic, entertainment-oriented laptops at extremely low prices (starting at $499). Once we got our hands on the $649 Compaq Presario CQ50-115NR, we were impressed with its high-end look and feel. But looks aren't everything, and the Presario CQ50-115NR couldn't fulfill its upscale promise on our performance and battery benchmarks. The entry-level Compaq Presario CQ50-115NR looks great, but you can get better performance and battery life for your money.

With a glossy lid and relatively trim profile, the Compaq Presario CQ50-215nr looks more expensive than its $549 price tag. Unfortunately, looks aren't everything: the Presario CQ50-215nr couldn't fulfill the laptop's upscale promise on our performance and battery benchmarks, in part due to its low-cost Athlon processor. Despite its upscale looks, the 15.4-inch Compaq Presario CQ50-215nr is marred by pokey performance and abbreviated battery life.

NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G: The 8200 MG is a reduced 9100M G (only Single Channel memory and only PureVideo HD VP2).

AMD Turion X2: The Turion X2 (without 64) is based on the Turion X2 Ultra, but has only 1024 MB L2 Cache and is therefore slower (performance compareable to the old Turion 64 X2). Because of new parts from the K10 architecture, the CPU should be more energy efficient.
RM-70:
Griffin based entry-level dual core processor. The cores are still based on the old K8 architecture (memory controller is newer).
AMD Athlon X2:
QL-60:
Similar to the Turion X2 CPU, but with reduced power saving functions (no deep sleep, only 2 instead of 3 P-states).
15.4: 15 inch display-variants are the standard and are used for more than the half of all notebooks. 15.4 inch display with 16:10 are the standard for notebook displays. Nowadays, more and more 16:9 displays with 15.6 inch appear. The reason why so many people like displays with medium size is, that this size is not exhausting for the eyes, does not need too much energy and the laptops can be kept quite compact.
