HP 255 G2

The HP 255 G2 is a low-cost laptop designed for business users, or in other words, a simple office laptop. The HPP 255 G2 is powered by an E1-2100 APU AMD Kabini which is not the best of the bunch as several Intel processor are superior to it, but gives enough for basic usage such as web browsing, text processing and making Skype calls. The 15.6 inch display is nothing to be awed by. The size of the screen is decent, but resolution, brightness and colors are just average.

The keyboard of this device does not have any number pad or keyboard light, but uses a standard layout so familiarizing with the keyboard shouldn't be much of an issue. The Ctrl and Alt are a little smaller than usual, but the keyboard does include several indicators for Caps Lock, Wifi and mute.

Despite its very low price tag, the HP 255 G2 has quite a nice exterior. The black plastic gives it a nice sleek office look while the matte surfaces doesn't make it look cheap. The laptop does come with the basic ports such as 3 USB ports, a headphone jack, but no microphone jack as it has a built in microphone, Ethernet port, HDMI port and a VGA port for older projectors. It also comes with 802.11 (b,g,n) Wi-Fi and 4.0 Bluetooth to give wireless connectivity.

In short, the HP 255 G2 is a laptop made for simple business matters. Despite having lower specifications, the laptop itself runs very well and can fulfill the needs of office work.

70% Review Update HP 255 G2 Notebook | Notebookcheck
Minimal. With the HP 255, HP focuses on private and professional users looking for the cheapest possible work tool. A price of significantly below 400 Euros (~$549) is definitely "cheap." Our review reveals whether the notebook is also convincing.
80% A low-priced laptop that's reasonably capable
Source: Techradar English Archive.org version
HP has clearly aimed low with the 255 G2, but in doing so, has hit the mark. Although its performance isn't great, it's hard to be really critical of this laptop, since it's very well priced and it does exactly what it's intended for. While the low-power processor and fairly limited graphics hardware will definitely struggle with demanding tasks, the inclusion of 4GB of memory ensures it remains perfectly responsive and does a good job running light software.

8W TDP shows how efficient AMD E1-2100 APU is regarding consumption, but also how much it is a weak for some serious work. However, it is possible to surf, watch a movie and do everything else in the scope of regular use, since the integrated Radeon HD 8210 graphics card is much better compared to similar Intel Solutions (between Ivy Bridge and Haswell integrated graphics). The rest of the configuration makes the standard 500GB hard drive and only 2GB of RAM so the rapid upgrade to 4GB is recommended. Laptop comes with no operating system installed, so this should be included in the final price. Although Kabini platform is very important for AMD and has excellent performance, this APU is not sufficient for demanding users who want more than the most basic applications and purposes. The price is affordable for a 15.6" model, so in the budget- friendly category is an excellent choice.
Positive: Good workmanship; decent autonomy; good price. Negative: Not very impressive performance.

60% HP Ubuntu laptop (255 G1)
Source: It Pro English Archive.org version
Despite the proliferation of affordable Windows machines at this end of the market, HP’s super-cheap Ubuntu machine worth considering. Ubuntu 12.04 of the OS is easy to use, with a slick interface, reasonable software and revised features. If you and your office can accept Ubuntu – and you’re willing to live with this machine’s basic performance – then it’s a decent budget buy.

When it comes to power, battery life and screen quality, the HP 255 G3 is clearly lacking – especially when compared to some of the leading business laptops out there. However, the price is a vital consideration here – for only £199, you're still getting a lot of laptop.

This laptop is probably the most powerful new laptop you can purchase for around £200 (around $350, AU$390) with the A4-5000 giving it the edge on its low-cost rivals. Whether it is the best for you depends on your taste though – the diminutive Asus X200MA wins hands-down when it comes to portability and battery life, plus it has a touchscreen display and a tiny power adaptor.

Source: Tech Advisor English Archive.org version
Design and build quality of the HP 255 G3 are workmanlike, but importantly the main comfort areas of keyboard, trackpad and display are quite usable, if with the usual issues of poor display quality we find at this low price. But for only £200 the HP is more than creditable as a get-you-by budget Windows laptop.

HP 255 G9 review

See, this may be a media-consumption device, rather than a media-creation one. However, we are not really sure if watching videos or playing games would be a satisfactory experience with this laptop. So, if it wasn’t for the horrid screen and speaker duo, we would have gladly recommended this piece of machinery. On the other hand, the Lenovo V15 Gen 2 is one of the good alternatives to this laptop.

74.89%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
