First images of Diagon Alley from HBO’s Harry Potter series leaked – and they look very different from the original
While HBO’s new Harry Potter series will feature familiar characters, some iconic locations may look quite different from the original films. One such place is Diagon Alley, which appears to have been completely redesigned for the show. Three images of the new set recently surfaced on X.
One image offers a wide view of the alley, with the most noticeable change being the addition of a second floor. The second photo shows a familiar yet redesigned Quidditch shop, while the third reveals two stores that appear to have been created specifically for the series – Glissando’s, likely a music shop, and Primpornelle’s Beautifying Potions, which seems to sell magical beauty products.
According to insider information from Buffed, the layout of the shops in Diagon Alley has also been altered. The reason behind the redesign is likely tied to copyright restrictions. HBO cannot directly reuse the visual style of the original films, as the rights to those sets belong to Warner Bros. While both versions are based on the same books, HBO must take a different creative approach to set design.
The leaked images of the new Diagon Alley have received mixed reactions in the comments under the X post. While some fans appreciate the fresh look and feel it could bring a more “realistic” and “gritty” atmosphere to the series, others think the set looks too “plastic.” It’s worth noting that these images were not released by HBO. They were apparently taken by third parties, though the exact circumstances remain unclear. So far, no official stills or trailers of the redesigned Diagon Alley have been released.
