The top-end GPU configuration of the new Lenovo Legion Y740-17 can be purchased for just below 2700 Euros (~$2972). In our review, our test configuration was able to match its more expensive competition.

The Lenovo Legion Y740-17 is a 17-inch laptop for gamers. This is quite apparent from its overall look, since many aspects are accentuated by RGB elements. Still, the design of the dark gray device is not too flashy. The rigid base and display lid leave a solid and high-quality impression, which it partially owes to the materials used. The manufacturer has opted for a construction that primarily consists of aluminum

While our configuration of the Lenovo Legion Y740-17 is equipped with an Intel Core i7-9750H, an Intel Core i9-9880H option is available as well. In the latter case, 8 physical cores are responsible for handling workloads. Our model on the other hand is only equipped with a 6-core CPU.

The performance of the SoC is still sufficient for all current games. Meanwhile, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q delivers sufficient performance to allow for high frame rates. This is the current top GPU configuration of the Lenovo Legion Y740-17. Only the non-Max-Q GeForce RTX 2080 is an even faster mobile option. In our review, the Lenovo Legion Y740-17 achieves very good frame rates, while also being able to smoothly run the latest titles at maximum quality setting.

In addition, our test device sports 16 GB of RAM and a very fast NVMe SSD, which with a capacity of 1 TB, is a good starting point for most users. Those who need even more storage space may additionally install a second storage drive in the Lenovo Legion Y740-17. An unoccupied 2.5-inch slot is available.

We deducted points for the very short battery life. On the other hand, the fans of the device are not very loud even under high load. The fans also do not emit high frequencies. The matte IPS panel not only offers good visuals in general but also 144 Hz and G-Sync, which further emphasizes the gaming aspect of the laptop.
