Dell unveiled the Precision M2800 last Friday, advertising it as the cheapest 15-inch mobile workstation that "removes cost-barriers for workstation-class performance and mission-critical reliability so more designers, engineers, artists and students can run their software to its full potential."
The Dell Precision M2800 offers "an affordable ISV-certified system with professional graphics and processors" that fills the void between business-class machines and mobile workstations. This is an overview of its main specs and features mentioned in the official press release:
- Processors: fourth-generation Intel Core i5 and i7
- Display: 15.6-inch UltraSharp HD or Full HD
- Graphics adapter: 2 GB GDDR5 AMD FirePro W4170M
- Memory/Storage: up to 16 GB RAM; up to 1 TB internal storage
- Connectivity: external multi-monitor support and docking compatibility
The detailed specs of the Precision M2800 are not available yet but it is already known that it will be ISV-certified for professional software like Inventor and Revit, AutoCad, Creo, Solidworks, as well as others. This mobile workstation will also come with Dell Precision Performance Optimizer (DPPO), a program built to automatically optimize system settings for certain applications.
The price of the Dell Precision M2800 will start at only $1,199 USD and first units will reach worldwide customers and channel partners "this spring."
