With the CS-8, Camp Snap has presented a digital video camera inspired by the analog Kodak Super 8. The camera has a retro design with a handgrip and a trigger that can be pressed with the index finger to start and stop video recording. This makes it particularly easy to record short clips.
A special feature are the analog indicators on the sides of the camera that show the remaining storage space on the SD card and the remaining battery charge. While the camera offers an electronic viewfinder, the Camp Snap CS-8 doesn’t have a screen at all, which is also intended to contribute to the analog feeling. A rotary dial on the side allows users to activate video filters for recording black-and-white or sepia videos, for instance.
The aspect ratio can also be adjusted with a rotary dial, and the camera supports 16:9, 4:3, as well as 9:16 portrait and square videos. The camera also supports 8x zoom, but the inscription on the lens suggests this is only digital zoom. In general, buyers should not have high expectations in terms of video quality, as the short sample videos on the product page illustrates. The camera does have microphones and a built-in battery that can be charged via USB-C.
