Another quirky newcomer has landed on Steam, and it shows real promise at first glance. With its eerie charm, Dorothy’s Job also makes for a fitting way to get into the Halloween spirit. Just one day after release, the twin-stick shooter has already gathered 15 reviews – all of them positive.
As the name suggests, the game centers on Dorothy, a strikingly muscular housekeeper working for a supervillain. Her job is to keep his lavish mansion spotless, but that’s easier said than done. Monsters, slime creatures and all kinds of bizarre beings with a clear aversion to cleanliness lurk around every corner. Each mission drops you into a new, randomly generated section of the villain’s lair – from marble hallways to offices and high-tech labs.
Gameplay-wise, Dorothy’s Job sticks to the classic twin-stick shooter formula. You guide Dorothy from an isometric perspective, battling grime and monsters alike with spray bottles, mops and vacuum cleaners. The game doesn’t take itself too seriously, offering a generous dose of humor throughout. Early reviews describe the experience as “very fun” and “extremely addictive.” Still, as a smaller project, it doesn’t feature a large amount of content, and some players have noted that the difficulty can occasionally feel a bit frustrating.
Dorothy’s Job was developed by Bola 13 Studios and released on Steam by U-tad on October 24. The twin-stick shooter is completely free to play and runs smoothly even on modest hardware. It also includes full controller support, although its Steam Deck (available at Amazon for $425) compatibility, currently listed as “unknown”, has yet to be confirmed.
