Reviews for the Asus U80V

Good performance and a bling trackpad differentiate the Asus U80V 14in-screen laptop. The Asus U80V is an above-average all-purpose notebook with some interesting bells and whistles up its sleeve. It provides a solid performance, but its ultimate worthiness will depend on the UK retail price.

Not content with ushering in its latest set of Seashell-inspired laptops, Asus has now unleashed its U-series notebooks upon the world. And when Asus' marketing spiel promised us an "exquisitely crafted, thin and lightweight notebook", we put on our Sunday best and waited excitedly for the courier to arrive. But, to a certain extent, we wish we hadn't made the effort. Not as exquisitely designed as Asus would have us believe, this laptop will have to be aggressively priced to compete.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570: Lower middle-class GPU that features a low shader count and a 64 Bit memory bus but a high clock speed. Similar to the desktop Radeon 4550. Supports Avivo HD and DirectX 10.1.
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

Intel Core 2 Duo: This is the Core Duo and Core Solo successor with a longer pipeline and 5-20% more speed without more power consumption. As an addition to the Core Duo design there exists a fourth decoder, an amplified SSE-unit and an additional arithmetical logical unit (ALU).
The Core 2 Duo for laptops is identical to the desktop Core 2 Duo processors but the notebook-processors work with lower voltages (0.95 to 1188 Volt) and a lower Frontside bus clock (1066 vs 667 MHz). The performance of equally clocked notebooks is 20-25% lower than Desktop PCs because of the lower Frontside bus clock and the slower hard disks.
T9550:
The T9550 is a middle class dual-core CPU of the Core 2 Duo line and similar to the P9600 (except for the higher TDP of the T9550 - 35 vs 25 W). The performance of the T9550 should be sufficient for most applications and games of 2009.
» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.14.0": 14 inch display size is a mixture between the small formats of subnotebooks and the 15 inch standard display. The reason why so many people like displays with medium size is, that this size is not exhausting for the eyes, does not need too much energy and the laptops can be kept quite compact.» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
2.15 kg: These sub-notebooks weight less than the average of all notebooks, but represent a heavier class of weight among the sub-notebooks. 13 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.
Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Incorporated, a Taiwanese multinational company, produces motherboards, graphics cards, optical drives, PDAs, computer monitors, notebook computers, servers, networking products, mobile phones, computer cases, computer components, and computer cooling systems. The company's 2007 revenues reached US$6.9 billion. ASUS also produces components for other manufacturers. The Eee PC initiated the netbook boom in 2008.
65%: Such a bad rating is rare. There exist hardly any notebooks, which are rated worse.
