Lot of attention of, above all, gamers attracted ASUS with N50Vn notebook. Good gaming performance levels and acceptable price are not that common occurrence in notebook market. Because of this, a lot of potential buyers doubted that there is some sort of a catch or hidden faults in it. We got one of ASUS N50Vn models in our test lab and if something’s wrong with it you can bet that we will find what’s wrong. Despite minor inconsistencies, ASUS N50Vn is an very good notebook. Good looking, good quality build, fast and with moderate price it presents good purchase opportunity. If you need notebook that can satisfy your gaming appetites for a reasonable price, this can be perfect solution.

It's been a while since we had an 'ordinary' notebook from Asus through our labs. Everything we've looked at recently has either been a netbook like the Eee PC 1000HE or a premium ultra-portable along the lines of the Asus U6V - high time, then, to examine something a little more mainstream with the company's N50Vc. A 15.4in entertainment notebook, it has all the features you'd expect of a good multimedia-focused machine. That means plenty of memory and storage, discrete graphics and a Blu-ray drive all wrapped in a nice glossy chassis with a reasonable price tag slapped on the box. A fairly good effort on Asus' part is somewhat held back by an average screen and a few minor niggles, but is nonetheless worth its moderate asking price. If you're looking for an affordable multimedia notebook, keep the N50Vc in mind.

If you just want something small and cheap to do a bit of surfing and email on, a netbook is fine. If you need to actually get some proper work done, though, the cut-down spec often isn't really up to the task - which is where something like the Asus N50Vc comes in. Asus has come up with a nice-looking notebook, of that there's no doubt. But unless you're desperate for the frills - ionizer, Blu-ray drive, separate numeric keypad - you can buy a machine that's just as good a performer for less.

Other natty features include an ambient light sensor to auto-adjust the panel, as well as a eSATA port for fast data connectivity. eSATA isn't prevalent at the moment, but we are seeing it on a growing number of external hard drives. It's certainly an interesting addition to the Asus N50vc, anyway.

The N50V is a great-looking, well-equipped laptop. It's not perfect by any means -- the storage is limited and the screen has issues -- so the Asus M70 might be a better bet. But if you want a stylish desktop replacement with plenty of power and features, it's worth a look. We'll have a full review of the N50V with performance benchmarks once Asus can supply one with all the proper drivers, operating system and software.

NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS: Compared to the 9300M G, the GS has only 8 unified shaders but a higher clock rate. Therefore, the performance should be similar according to Nvidia. Supports
Hybrid-SLI (GeForceBoost and HybridPower) with Nvidia 9100M G and PureVideo HD (VP3).
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

Intel Core 2 Duo: This is the Core Duo and Core Solo successor with a longer pipeline and 5-20% more speed without more power consumption. As an addition to the Core Duo design there exists a fourth decoder, an amplified SSE-unit and an additional arithmetical logical unit (ALU).
The Core 2 Duo for laptops is identical to the desktop Core 2 Duo processors but the notebook-processors work with lower voltages (0.95 to 1188 Volt) and a lower Frontside bus clock (1066 vs 667 MHz). The performance of equally clocked notebooks is 20-25% lower than Desktop PCs because of the lower Frontside bus clock and the slower hard disks.
P8600:
Fast but still not overpriced dual core CPU. For most games and multimedia applications sufficient and due to the 25W TDP even for smaller notebooks useable.

15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.2.9 kg:
With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.

76.67%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
