Amazon allegedly working on a cheap 6-inch Fire Tablet
Amazon unveiled the 6-inch Fire HD tablet last year, and this slate offers pretty much for just $99 USD. Fire HD 6 uses a quad-core processor and 8 GB of internal storage while its screen has 1,280X800 pixels. By the end of the year, this slate might get a cheaper successor that is expected to retail just in time for the holiday season and to carry a price tag of $50 USD.
According to various insiders familiar with the matter, the new 6-inch Fire Tablet will drop stereo sound and will only pack a mono speaker, but no other specs or features have been mentioned for now. However, these sources revealed that Amazon also plans to launch two more low-end tablets, but with larger screens. These tablets might be 8-inch and 10-inch variants of the $50 USD slate, but they could come with more powerful hardware as well. Unfortunately, there is no information on their price and specs available, either.
Although the $50 USD Fire Tablet will probably come with embedded advertising, it still looks like a killer Christmas deal in the low-end area of the market. Remains to see if this rumor turns into reality or not.
