AMD launches Radeon Pro W7900 48 GB and Pro W7800 32 GB professional RDNA3 GPUs
AMD’s RDNA3 professional GPUs include the Radeon Pro W7900 based on the full Navi 31 chip, as well as a W7800 model that appears to be the first GPU based on the Navi 32 chip. Team Red is launching these cards with aggressive price points versus similar solutions from Nvidia.
Just like the Radeon RX 7900 XTX gaming flagship, the new Pro W7900 features 96 CUs with a 384-bit VRAM bus. However, the professional GPu comes with 48 GB of GDDR6 ECC VRAM. Peak single precision FP32 is rated at 61 TFLOPS, which is significantly lower compared to Nvidia’s RTX 6000 Ada flagship pro GPU that can process 91 TFLOPS. Still, the AMD card is 50% less expensive (US$3,999).
For professionals who are looking for a more budget-friendly solution, AMD is offering the Pro W7800 card with an MSRP of US$2,499. This version comes with 70 CUs and 32 GB of GDDR6 ECC VRAM. Interestingly enough, the VRAM bus is set to 256-bit, which is not what Navi 31 chips use, so we may be looking at the first Navi 32 implementation here. It could, nonetheless, be a custom chip, since Navi 32 maxes out at only 60 CUs. The Pro W7800 has a peak compute performance of 45 TFLOPS.
Even though the compute performance is not on par with Nvidia’s solutions, the RDNA3 professional cards still have a few aces up their sleeves, including slightly lower TGPs, 4x DisplayPort 2.1 connections with 80 Gb/s bandwidth each, and, of course, the lower price points. AMD also touts the 8K60 AV1 encode/decode capabilities. On the design side, the GPU shroud ditches the blue color scheme and is now featuring a black look with metallic accents. The Pro W7900 is triple-slot, while the Pro W7800 is dual-slot.
