iPhone was the top selling tech product of 2017
Apple’s iPhone proved to be the top selling tech product of 2017, according to GBH Insights. By the end of 2017, Apple will have sold over 223 million iPhones, up some 12 million on its 2016 sales. In fact, the iPhone even outsold the number 2 to through to number 5 products combined, to give you a sense of just what a juggernaut the iPhone is for Apple.
Second on the list were the combined sales of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8 models with 33 million sales. In third place was the Amazon Echo Dot, which pulled in 24 million sales. Apple was in again at number 4 on the list with the Apple Watch garnering 20 million sales. Coming in at a very respectable 5th place on the list was the Nintendo Switch, a breakout hit for the Japanese company, with 15 million sales.
According to GBH Insights, although the iPhone X was the first major redesign for Apple in three years, the super-cycle upgrade of Apple’s 1 billion plus iPhone user base will happen in 2018, with up to 350 million expected to upgrade their existing iPhones. While there have been suggestions that Apple might be forced to drop the price of the iPhone X due to weaker than expected sales, Moorhead Insights believes that Apple will instead drop the price of the other models in Apple’s current line up.
