While, choice is the only option for the consumers of a developed country but in a developing country a lot of factors come into play, of which price is a major factor regarding the selection of a particular product. This same strategy prevails for a lot of products among which a netbook is also included. And for this reason a lot of companies are offering cheap netbooks as well as other products specially designed for those countries.
A new netbook from Vodafone is also on its way to get launched. This netbook will be called Webbook and is more specifically from Vodafone’s subsidiary in South Africa called Vodacom. This netbook will be powered by Ubuntu and the price tag attached to it is only $188.
As for the specifications of the Webbook - it runs on a Cortex-A8 Freescale iMX51 processor clocked at 800MHz and includes a RAM of 512MB. The OS equipped is the ARM version of Ubuntu 11.10. The display of the netbook is 10inch LCD as other netbooks. A 4GB on board flash storage is also provided.
As we can see that this model is provided by Vodafone, they also have expectedly included an option for attaching a modem as well as a SIM card, which are definitely attached for some extra expense. The packages the provided with this netbook are as, a 12month contract for $238 along with the modem and the SIM, and another package offers the netbook for $188 along with a contract of $24 per month for access on a two year contract, both the modem and the SIM are also included in the package.
Along with these two contracts one more option is also provided with an extra expense of the data subscription and hardware where the data allowance is low as 100MB if the customer choose the $238 option and 500MB is provided with $24 every month.
Although the price of the packages provided does not seem to be quite cheap, lets see how it can attract its customers in South Africa.
