Toshiba releases fix for Thrive sleep issue

Teaser
Software update for Thrive tablet solves sleep and wakeup problems

Shortly after its launch, many Thrive owners reported that their tablet was experiencing issues in waking up after going to sleep. However, late last month Toshiba acknowledged the problem and announced that a fix and update would be forthcoming this week.

Now true to their word, the update seems to have begun rolling out and can be acquired by Thrive owners through a visit to the Toshiba Service Station app on the tablet. In addition to helping the tablet get a good night’s rest, the update enhances some of the device’s multimedia playback capabilities by adding native support for AVI, DIVX and XVID codecs and adds display controller enhancements.

Although the sleep disturbances were a setback for the tablet, Toshiba’s prompt reply definitely earns it points in our book. And with early reports indicating that the update resolves the issue, hopefully nothing else sours the Thrive experience in the future.
