Toshiba Satellite L735 now available

Teaser
The 13.3-inch kid-centric notebook now available with AMD Fusion and up to 5.5 hours of battery life, starting for $399

A few weeks ago, Toshiba announced an entire lineup of budget notebooks, including an update to last year’s child-friendly Satellite L635. Called the Satellite L735, the 2011 model is now available in the U.S.

The 13.3-inch notebook has been updated with AMD Fusion processors, specifically the 1.3GHz dual-core E-300 APU, and includes an integrated Radeon HD 6310 GPU, 1366x768 resolution screen, 3GB RAM, 320GB HDD, DVD writer, webcam, multi-card reader, VGA-out and 2x USB 2.0 ports. Bluetooth is not available and, according to the official screenshots of the notebook, HDMI has been omitted as well. Judging from the target audience of the L735, the intentional absence of the high definition port is understandable.

The unit will come preloaded with specialized child-safe software, including the KidZui web browser and a Lego Harry Potter game. The keyboard design appears to be similar to the L635, so cleaning off liquids, foods or smudges should be easier than usual. Overall, the Toshiba notebook weighs about 4.6 pounds (2.09kg) and is about 1.5-inches (3.81) thick. Battery life is rated at up to 5.5 hours from its 6-cell module.

Currently, both Toshiba Online and Best Buy are offering the Satellite L735, although only one model and color is available for now. The notebook starts at $497 on Toshiba’s online outlet, although Best Buy is listing the laptop for nearly $100 less at $399.
