Tesla prices Enhanced Autopilot subscription at $99/month in China as Elon Musk lands to discuss FSD 12 rollout
While Elon Musk's scheduled visit to India felt through, citing "obligations," Tesla's CEO has now made an unscheduled visit to China.
Elon has landed in Beijing, ostensibly coming to discuss the rollout of Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) autonomous driving service there.
Recently, he answered "it may happen very soon" to a question of a local Tesla fan about the arrival of FSD in China, and will now be meeting with local regulators to talk shop about the launch.
Tesla is also demonstrating FSD 12 to transportation authorities in Europe, which is the next market it plans to release its driver-assist option in.
China should be a softer nut to crack, though, as there are a number of competing driver-assist services by major EV maker there, and the Chinese regulators have already laid the groundwork for their operation and safety requirements.
As if to indicate the FSD subscription pricing in China, Tesla is now offering monthly rates for the use of its Enhanced Autopilot option there.
Instead of purchasing its Enhanced Autopilot option for about $4,500 outright, Tesla owners in China are now offered to subscribe for the equivalent of $99/month, or $66/month if paid for a quarter.
This is a very high price for China, and equal to what US users are now paying for FSD 12 per month. Those who subscribe for Enhanced Autopilot, however, might be upgraded to the FSD option for the same price, and Tesla could use this as an uptake incentive.
After all, Tesla needs people to log miles driven with the FSD option to present to regulators globally, in order to make its Robotaxi and CyberCab autonomous service ideas work.
China is its second-largest market despite the strong competition there, and there will be no substitution for gathering local data to improve the operations and safety score of FSD on Chinese roads.
