Teaser
With a 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, 1 GB RAM, a 7-inch 800x480 capacitive touchscreen, and a price tag of $149.99, the Tabeo 7-inch Kids Tablet is a modestly priced "edutainment" tablet running on Google's Android ICS platform.

Recent news articles might lead one to believe that tablets are currently trending. Last week alone, Amazon unveiled its new line of Kindle tablets, Getac updated its rugged tablet, and Panasonic updated its convertible tablet. A week before that, Samsung, Lenovo, Dell, and Sony unveiled new portable devices at IFA 2012. Today, American toy store chain Toys “R” Us joins their ranks as the latest company to introduce a new tablet, the Tabeo 7-inch Kids Tablet.

The kid-safe tablet features a 7-inch 800x480 capacitive touchscreen, a 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, 1 GB RAM, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). Other specifications include 4 GB of internal flash storage, a microSD slot capable of up to 32 GB of external storage, a mini-HDMI port, a front-facing camera, a G-sensor, and built-in 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. The advertised battery life is approximately 10 hours during normal use. Designed for kids, the tablet includes 50 free, pre-installed applications with a focus on entertainment and education. Internet security and parental controls are included to allow parents to limit access to certain types of content or restrict the access times and durations. Over “6000 free downloadable apps” will also be available from the Tabeo store.

The Tabeo will be available starting October 21 at Toys “R” Us stores for $149.99. Pre-orders can be made immediately using the Toys “R” Us website.
