Samsung not interested in HP's PC unit

Teaser
Samsung officially crosses itself off the list of potential companies considering a buyout of HP's PC business

Earlier this week, a DigiTimes report claimed that sources from the “upstream supply chain” were overhearing a possibility of a Samsung takeover of HP’s PC unit.

The sources added that Samsung’s actions seem like it is already in preparation to take up Hewlett-Packard’s (HP’s) PC business,” said DigiTimes.

However, the report turned out to be pure speculation as Samsung yesterday cleared the air on its involvement with HP PCs. The South Korean conglomerate reputed the gossip with one simple line on its official blog site:

The recent rumors that Samsung Electronics will be taking over Hewlett-Packard Co.’s personal computer business are not true. We hope this clarifies any confusion that may have occurred.”

The rumor came days after HP’s announcement of possibly spinning off its PC business. If HP were to sell it off to Samsung, the Korean company may have had trouble shipping 50-60 million units in one year, claimed Quanta.

Regardless, HP is still considering selling off or turning its personal computer division into a separate company. Even without any involvement from Samsung, big changes are definitely in store for the Hewlett-Packard.
