Reviews for the Polywell PolyNote 714AH

40% Polywell PolyNote 714AH 17-inch Desktop Replacement Laptop PC
Source: Comp Reviews English Archive.org version
While Polywell makes some very strong high performance laptop systems, their value oriented laptops such as the PolyNote 714AH fall short of being real values. The systems have solid construction and some peripheral ports that many companies are dropping but they short change consumers on features such as RAM, hard drive space and graphics. For $1000, there are much better options for consumers looking for a 17-inch laptop.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570: Lower middle-class GPU that features a low shader count and a 64 Bit memory bus but a high clock speed. Similar to the desktop Radeon 4550. Supports Avivo HD and DirectX 10.1.

Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

520M:

The Core i5-520M has only 3 MB L3 Cache (compared to the I7-640M) and clocks between 2.4-2.93 GHz (Turbo Mode). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD 3150) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.

17.00":

This range for display formats was and is a rarity. It is larger than the general standard of 15 inches, but not yet in the range of large workstations. One usually has higher screen resolutions available, but portability suffers from that.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

3.1 kg:

A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.

Polywell: US-American computer manufacturer without considerable international relevance regarding laptops.

40%: This rating is bad and very rare. There are only a few models that are rated so poorly. If the source is reputable, then a purchase is probably not advisable.
