The high-end 5.5-inch Android smartphone will supposedly carry the Snapdragon 835 SoC and a QHD OLED display with hardware security features not unlike the Galaxy S8.

HMD Global's long-term plans for Nokia are unclear, but we do know that a series of budget smartphones will be coming this Summer after their official unveiling at this year's MWC in Barcelona. At least one more flagship model is in the works, however, called the Nokia 9 according to sources close to Nokia Power User.

The anonymous source is claiming that the Nokia 9 will feature an impressive 5.5-inch QHD OLED display, Snapdragon 835 SoC, 6 GB of RAM, 3800 mAh battery, and 64 GB or 128 GB of internal storage space. The chassis may be IP68-certified for dust and water resistance. While the front camera is expected to be a standard 12 MP lens, the rear could be dual 22 MP lenses from Carl Zeiss for superior image quality. Both a fingerprint sensor and iris scanner could be integrated not unlike on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Nokia smartphone may even be the first to feature OZO Audio for better audio playback and processing.

The Snapdragon 835 is the same processor as found on certain SKUs of the Galaxy S8 and is not yet available for manufacturers outside of Samsung due to production constraints. Thus, the rumored Nokia 9 will not launch until Q3 2017 at the earliest if these specifications prove to be true. A Snapdragon 835-powered tablet could be in the works from the Finnish company as well.
