Hitachi launches Travelstar Z5K500 500GB Laptop HDD

Japanese major Hitachi has launched a new product in the laptop components segment. The Hitachi Travelstar Z5K500 is a 500GB laptop hard drive and is supposed to have the highest storage capacity for a 7mm thin HDD in the industry. The 2.5-inch Travelstar Z5K500 ultrathin HDD rotates at a speed of 5,400rpm. It has 8MB cache, SATA2 interface, optional bulk data encryption, and optional enhanced availability.

Company officials put December as the time for shipping to select distributers. As to when we will see the HDD in one of the laptops cannot be ascertained now. No pricing details are known too.
