Asus outs the Eee PC R011PX in Germany

The Linux-powered ASUS Eee PC R011PX hits Germany at an incredible 199 Euros

Asus has just released the long-due ASUS Eee PC R011PX in Germany for a very competitive 199 Euros (equivalent to 285 dollars). It was announced way back in February this year, but the release in Germany seems to have postponed for some unknown reason. The wait could be worthwhile for those interested in this toy as the price then was rumored to be close to 499 Euros (714 dollars).

The R011PX (labeled 1011PX in certain areas) is basically an updated version of the older 1001PX netbook. It sports the typical 10.1” display panel with a 1024 x 600 pixels resolution that we have come to see so often in a netbook. The 1.66GHz Atom N455 single core processor is no surprise as well. It is a small and cheap entry-level CPU coupled with an Intel GMA 3150 graphics chip. It supports DDR3 memory module so you are looking at a slightly faster operations than that in the case of the older DDR2 supporting Atom chips.

Apart from that, the R011PX boasts of 2GB DDR3 RAM, 320GB hard disk space, WLAN 802.11b/g/n, 3 x USB 2.0, VGA Out, Audio In/Out, MMC, SD (SDHC), a poor 0.3MP webcam and 3-cell 4200mAah battery that should be good for 4-5hrs of moderate computing. One major reason for the reasonable price is that Asus chose to exclude Windows 7 and instead put Ubuntu 10.10.
