Although the Asus Eee PC X101 was announced much earlier in the year, it wasn’t until this week that the netbook equipped with MeeGo OS would become available. Users were able to pre-order the device ever since late last July.

The 10.1-inch Asus netbook will have the same specs as previously mentioned. This includes the Intel 1.33GHz Atom N435 CPU, a 1024x600 resolution display, 1GB RAM, 8GB SSD, Bluetooth 3.0, VGA camera, 2x USB 2.0 and an SD card reader. Expected battery life is 4 hours with the included 3-cell battery. The small form factor is only about 0.7 inches (17.8mm) thick with an overall weight of about 2 pounds (0.91kg).

As of this writing, the MeeGo netbook is in stock for a very low price of $199  or $209, depending on the retailer. Amazon, however, is still taking pre-orders for a higher price of $226. Only a black version is being offered through online outlets so far, although red, white and brown models should be made available as well.

After graduating with a B.S. in environmental hydrodynamics from the University of California, I studied reactor physics to become licensed by the U.S. NRC to operate nuclear reactors. There's a striking level of appreciation you gain for everyday consumer electronics after working with modern nuclear reactivity systems astonishingly powered by computers from the 80s.
