AMD VISION: Beginners

This is AMD’s cost-effective beginners’ category. Notebooks with this logo are equipped for all basic office jobs including e-mail. Devices with an VISION Technology from AMD label are also suited for listening to music and looking at photos and video clips online. It is based on a mobile Athlon processor and supported by an integrated chipset graphics. VISION Technology from AMD supports the Microsoft Windows 7 High DPI Feature with Catalyst Control Center and drivers. Thanks to DirectWrite and ClearType support, text can be easily read even at higher display resolutions.

ArcSoft also supports VISION Technology from AMD, and with “SimHD” it provides a stream plug-in for its ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre video software. ATI’s “Stream Technology“ enables users of SimHD to benefit from the graphic card performance of their VISION computers by using DVD Upscaling even for common SD films to achieve an HD image experience.

AMD VISION Premium: Cost-effective mainstream

The Premium version of VISION Technology from AMD means cost-effective, yet powerful notebooks with top-notch AMD technology. Devices with the VISION Premium label can do everything VISION category devices are able to do. In addition, VISION Premium also allows photo editing as well as watching Blu-ray and HD videos. With AMD VISION Premium, nothing stands in the way of converting your CD collection into MP3 format and of using the webcam.

With the Premium category, users benefit from highlights such as the “picture-in-picture” technology they are already familiar with from their television sets. In addition, the VISION Technology from AMD Premium version is supported by common video applications such as Cyberlink’s MediaShow Espresso and Sony’s Movie Studio 9 Platinum.

The MediaShow Espresso video converter thus uses AMD‘s unique Unified Video Decoder (UVD 2) to swiftly convert digital video files for use with portable terminal devices such as Apple iPhones and Sony PSPs. VISION Premium allows speed gains of up to 43 percent when converting video.

For Sony’s Movie Studio 9 Platinum there is also a special plug-in available for accelerating encoding and decoding operations with audio and video applications. Using the AMD Media Encoder plug-in can accelerate videos by up to 75 percent.

AMD VISION Ultimate: Powerful Professionals

Powerful top-class computers will sport the VISION Ultimate logo. This is mainly aimed at enthusiasts, who want to create and edit HD films or record live TV programmes. Demanding photo and video editing as well as graphic-intense gaming are all part of a VISION Ultimate computer’s repertoire.

VISION Ultimate’s top-class performance offers professionals an immense speed advantage with the AMD plug-in for Adobe’s Premiere Pro CS4 high-end video application. Encoding and decoding of audio and video is up to 234 percent faster on AMD-based platforms than on Intel equivalents.

But that is not all—Cyberlink’s PowerDirector 8 also benefits from VISION Ultimate, whether it’s demanding editing and creating of HD video effects or HD video playback. The graphic chip also accelerates video encoding here and supports up to 20 simultaneous active video effects.
