Acer: Acer updates the Aspire AS5745, AS7745, AS8943G and AS5742G

Acer has been at the forefront when it comes to performance laptops that carry the latest of graphic chips and latest technologies like 3D viewing etc. And now, a handful of Acer laptops will bear some of NVIDIA’s latest GPUs. The 15.6-inch Aspire AS5742G, AS5745 and 17.3-inch Aspire AS7745 will be the first ones from the Acer stable to pack in GeForce 400M GPUs that feature the Optimus technology. Apart from that, the mentioned laptops will include the same Intel Core 2010 CPU options featured in the previous models, and carries over the original design. A quick reminder - the Optimus technology helps automatic switching between the integrated and discrete graphics according to graphic requirements. This means that when you’re doing your everyday office work or surfing web, the system will use the integrated graphics version, which will automatically switch to the dedicated memory as soon as you open that graphics-laden video game you have been playing.

Aspire AS5745DG

On the other hand, the Acer Aspire AS5745DG which is powered by a Core-i5 CPU and bundled with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 420M has to be one of the very first laptops to get the enhanced version of 3D Vision technology by NVIDIA. According to a press release by Acer detailing the updated NVIDIA 3D Vision technology, the notebook now enjoys true 120Hz LCD technology to enable full-resolution 3D output. Advanced active 3D shutter glasses and a built-in IR receiver help each eye to see a full 60Hz signal, thus enhancing the 3D experience. Enjoying the upgradation party is also the 18.4-inch Aspire AS8943G which now gets Core i7 quad-core processor, 8GB of RAM and ATI's newest Mobility Radeon 5850 graphics.

Other specs

You get a Blu-ray disc drive with almost all of the models. Apart from that you will get the usual connectivity options like 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet, Acer Crystal Eye 1.3 megapixel HD webcam and HDMI out. Look for the 9-cell battery when you by any of these models.

Pricing and availability

The latest Aspire AS5742G will be available from starting $749.99 and $649.99 for the Aspire AS5745, whereas the AS7745 will set you back by $799.99 in the US. Although none of the models have a confirmed date for availability. In addition, the AS5745DG 3D laptop will fetch a price of $999.99, including the 3D shutter glasses, and will hit online stores from late October. $1,499.99 is what will cost you for the Aspire AS8943G and is already up for grabs at a store near you.
