Toshiba launches the REGZA AT374/28K tablet

Toshiba hasn't had any break-away successes in the Android tablet market yet. That doesn't stop the Japanese company from trying though. Earlier this year we saw the Excite line of 10-inch Android tablets, and now there is a new 7-inch slate set to launch – the REGZA AT374/28K.

The new device features a middling 1024 x 600 display, a 1.6 GHz quad-core Rockchip RK3188 processor, Android 4.2, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, a VGA front-facing camera, a 3 MP back-facing camera, a microSD slot, and support for both wifi and Bluetooth.

While there is nothing terrible about these specs, none of them stand out either. Toshiba's product certainly doesn't compare very well with the likes of the 2013 Nexus 7. The problem is the budget tablet market is becoming decidedly crowded, and a device like this would likely need to be priced very low to achieve any reasonable level of success.

The REGZA is expected to launch on November 22nd in Japan. Prices in Japan are typically steep, so it's no surprise the AT374/28K starts at 29800 Yen (US$297.46). Availability in other areas has not yet been announced.
