The touchpad lacks multitouch scrolling, but fine-grained cursor control and large buttons ensure the touchpad above average. Lackluster performance on heavy desktop tasks should exclude the Toshiba Satellite L755D from the category of business machines, but for all-round performance and moderate gaming ability the Toshiba Satellite L755D represents very good value for money.

Notebook shoppers on a budget--and especially casual gamers--will find plenty to like in the $548 Toshiba Satellite L755D-S5204. Its appealing design, comfortable keyboard, and roomy 640GB hard drive are pluses. And while the AMD quad-core processor isn't as fast as comparably priced Intel-powered machines, the AMD Radeon HD 6520G graphics provides above average performance. For $30 more we prefer the Gateway NV55S05u, which offers better performance and slightly longer battery life, and the HP Pavilion g6x provides better sound and CPU punch. But those looking for a system that can handle all their needs for less than $600 should definitely give the Satellite L755D a look.

The Toshiba Satellite L755D-S5204 looks sophisticated in its brushed aluminum skin, but underneath it’s not nearly as refined. After all it is a budget-friendly 15.6-inch laptop priced at $548. Its AMD A6-3400M processing performance is a bit disappointing and so is its weak battery life. Capable of only under 4 hours of unplugged operation, it’s not an ideal on-the-go laptop, but it could find a place as a desktop replacement. However, if a desktop replacement is what you’re really looking for, another Toshiba Satellite L series configuration such as the L775D-S7206 may be a better option. For roughly $150 more, you get a larger 17.3-inch screen, the same AMD quad-core processor, a Blu-ray drive, and slightly improved battery life. There are also other Intel Core processor configurations in the L750 lineup that could be better alternatives.

The L755D-12L is a good all-rounder which is aesthetically pleasing and very nicely built. It can handle gaming to a reasonable extent and performed solidly under Windows. Those who are more serious about gaming, however, might be best served spending a bit more – heading a little over the £500 mark – to snag something with a discrete video card that'll handle higher graphical details with more aplomb. But for those who want a truly budget jack-of-all-trades entertainment machine, this represents a great buy.

Samsung has delivered a cracking desktop replacement for under £500 in the form of the Samsung NP-RV720. It might not be much good for gaming but if it's a workhorse you're after, and you're not concerned about the lack of portability, then it is well worth considering.

Toshiba's Satellite L755D-S5359 does have some distinct advantages for those looking to use their laptop for specific tasks. In particular, the quad core AMD processor benefits those who do heavy multitasking or desktop video work. The built-in graphics also allow the system to be used for casual gaming which the Intel offerings cannot.

Affordable all-rounder or classic blowhard? 4 processor cores, two graphics chips, 8 GB of RAM and a 640 GB hard disk memory - sounds like a lot of power at a low price for a notebook of the EUR 600 category. We tested to what extent the Satellite L755D can live up to this first impression extensively.

Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
AMD Radeon HD 6520G:
Integrated processor graphics card (in the A6-Series of Llano APUs) without dedicated graphics memory and only 320 of the 400 shader cores.
AMD Radeon HD 6510G2:
Dual Graphics (asymmetrical CrossFire) combination of a dedicated Radeon HD 6430M, 6450M, or 6470M and a 6480G APU graphics card (in the processor core of the A-Series).
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
AMD Radeon HD 6520G + HD 7450M Dual Graphics: Asymmetric Crossfire combination of the Radeon HD 6520G processor graphics card and a dedicated Radeon HD 7450M. The performance is only in some games better than the single graphic card and may suffer from micro stuttering.

AMD A-Series:
A6-3400M: Llano quad-core APU clocked at 1.4-2.3 GHz (Turbo Core) featuring an integrated Radeon 6520G (320 cores, 400MHz) graphics card.
A4-3300M: Llano dual-core APU clocked at 1.9-2.5 GHz (TurboCore) featuring an integrated Radeon 6480G (240 cores, 444MHz) graphics card.

15.6: 15 inch display-variants are the standard and are used for more than the half of all notebooks. 15.4 inch display with 16:10 are the standard for notebook displays. However nowadays, more and more 16:9 displays with 15.6 inch appear. The reason why so many people like displays with medium size is, that this size is not exhausting for the eyes, does not need too much energy and the laptops can be kept quite compact.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
2.4 kg:
This notebook is lighter than the average of all notebooks. It is too heavy for sub-notebooks. 14 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.
2.5 kg:
74.92%: This rating is bad. Most notebooks are better rated. This is not a recommendation for purchase.
