Tesla unveils new steering wheel: improved version with physical horn
Tesla is delivering a new version of its yoked steering wheel. The Tesla Model S Plaid in 2021 also launched with a yokewheel, which was controversial at the time. Of course, the wheel did not have steer-by-wire steering like the current Cybertruck. Instead, it had a normal 14:1 steering ratio, which proved to be impractical at low speeds.
The new yoke steering will be available on both the Model S and Model X, and features a physical horn in the middle. According to the comments on the X app (formerly Twitter), it also has a better build quality, with more stitching. There are also buttons that vibrate when pressed and a new camera button. Apart from that, the controls seem to have stayed the same.

Owners of older Teslas with a worn steering wheel, for example where the leather is disintegrating, may be able to replace it with the new wheel under warranty. Benefits of the yoke steering wheel include giving the driver a better view of the dashboard and road and more space in the car.
In addition, it is said to provide a more sporty driving experience. Critics say that the yoke steering wheel can make the car more difficult to manoeuvre. There are also safety concerns, because it can be difficult to safely spin the yoke fast enough, particularly in the event of an accident.
