Customers in Japan claim overheating issues with new Xperia Z4 smartphones stemming from the Snapdragon 810 SoC

The Xperia Z4 is Sony's latest flagship smartphone and has been well regarded by media reviews. It recently launched in its home country of Japan, but new users are reporting serious issues with the device including overheating and apps closing without user action.

CPU-Z screenshots from affected users show core temperatures as high as 67 C. The issue has been so widespread that retailers are explicitly warning customers about the issue before purchasing. Customers are recommended to turn off the device periodically to keep the temperature in check.

There have been no official statements from Qualcomm or Sony regarding the Xperia Z4 or Snapdragon 810 SoC. We are expecting a response soon, otherwise there is a good chance that sales will suffer even further.
