The director of the team behind the commercially and critically successful Silent Hill 2 Remake has opened up about how it stood strong in the face of critics, delivering what is the most successful title in the franchise.

Game Director and Producer at Bloober Team, Jacek Zieba, recently sat down with PC Gamer and looked back on the studio’s journey with Silent Hill 2 Remake, a project that faced intense skepticism from the gaming community.

When the Polish studio announced it was in charge of developing the Silent Hill 2 Remake in 2022, the gaming community fired back with widespread backlash. Zieba looked back at the moment and expressed:

“There were a lot of voices: ‘Oh no, Bloober is doing this. They will destroy that.’ It was very tough for the whole company to stick to our guns and put all our hearts into that thing, even if most people don’t want it. We proved people wrong, so that’s nice.”

Silent Hill 2 Remake was released in October 2024 and sold 1 million copies within the first three days and 2 million by January 2025, making it the fastest-selling game in the franchise’s history. The game was a monumental success. According to SteamDB, the game received a 95.11% rating out of 46,641 reviews. Considering the critical success, Zieba stated, “We are starting to stop feeling like underdogs all the time after Silent Hill.”

The widespread acclaim reshaped Bloober Team’s reputation. Currently, the team is in charge of developing Silent Hill 1 Remake, which Konami revealed in a June 2025 livestream, and has reportedly been in the works for over three years. Leaks suggest the game is targeting a 2027 launch window, but could be delayed. Looking forward to the future, Zieba concluded:

“We’re in a different moment. I think we’re riding the wave of people being intrigued, and we need to deliver. We put our hearts into all our games, and we do whatever we can to make it the best.”

Looking ahead, Bloober Team is juggling Silent Hill 1 Remake and a new standalone IP, Cronos: The New Dawn, an original sci-fi time-bending horror game set for release in the fall of 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S|X.

Bloober Team was met with doubt every step of the way, but has now been rewarded for its persistence: It has accrued a loyal fanbase eager for its upcoming projects as a result.
