“We're excited...We took a long time putting this together,” Megan Thee Stallion was delighted to announce her upcoming anime series at DreamCon.

DreamCon is one of the biggest anime conventions around, largely thanks to the entertainment group RDC World, who sought to create an inclusive space for anime fans of all backgrounds to share their obsessions.

Despite some recent controversy between the group and the artist, Megan Thee Stallion did show up to DreamCon, and with some of the biggest news of the weekend.

“I’m coming out with my own anime,” the 30-year-old Grammy winner announced on stage. She went on to brag, “You ain’t ever seen an anime like this ever in your life!”

Megan Thee Stallion's anime fandom is well-known at this point. She’s done a ton of cosplay, including Sailor Moon, Satoru Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen, and Bruno Bucciarati from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. Her most recent album, Megan (2024), sent shockwaves throughout the anime community, thanks to her incredible song Otaku Hot Girl. The song had a surprise sample at the beginning, with the English voice actor for Yuji Itadori (of Jujutsu Kaisen), Adam McArthur, saying a slightly altered version of a famous line (“I like tall chicks like…Jennifer Lawrence”) from the anime that put Megan in the spotlight.

Being an anime fan doesn’t necessarily mean Megan Thee Stallion can just start running a show, so she partnered with a beloved producer, Carl Jones. Jones is probably best known for his work creating The Boondocks, a cartoon show that focused on a number of cultural and social topics, centered around two precocious black children. The 55-episode series is legendary, though it originally aired between November, 2005 and June, 2014. The talented duo are now joining forces to release an anime through Amazon Prime, according to Megan Thee Stallion’s announcement.

The “Otaku Hot Girl” had scant details to add to the announcement, saying “No, that’s the exciting news.” Given her great sense of humor and deep appreciation for the big three anime, plus Jones’ own penchant for comedic action, whatever anime Megan Thee Stallion has cooked up is sure to be funny and filled with awesome fight scenes. Anime fans everywhere can't wait to hear more about when they might be able to watch this new show!
