LostMagic, developed by Nokhook Entertainment, is a free-to-play, turn-based MMORPG that launched on Steam with a full release on July 17, 2025. The game had previously been available in early access since January 30, 2025, during which it received ongoing gameplay adjustments and updates in response to community feedback. This early access phase contributed a lot to a gradual build-up of its player base ahead of launch.
LostMagic takes inspiration from retro 2D role-playing games and distinguishes itself by using a turn-based combat system rather than the real-time action more typical of the genre. The game allows players to participate in solo or co-op dungeon runs, with teams of up to five, and includes features such as boss encounters, arena PvP, and a series of narrative quests. There is also an "Arcana Tower" mode, where progress is reset regularly to encourage repeated strategic play. Additional activities include joining in-game organizations, completing storylines, and uncovering hidden content.
The game is available on Windows and macOS with cross-platform multiplayer. While it includes in-app purchases, early user reviews mention that basic progression and most content are accessible to free players. Technical performance and the learning curve have been points raised in reviews, which is pretty consistent with expectations for a small-studio MMORPG at launch.
Since leaving early access, LostMagic has seen an increase in reviews, with a "Mostly Positive" overall rating and recent feedback indicating a generally favorable reception. Comparisons have already been made to older, turn-based online RPGs, though its success going forward will depend on post-launch support and how the developers address early technical feedback. However, LostMagic isn't officially compatible with the Steam Deck (curr. $785 on Amazon) as of writing, which might be a minor deterrent for some.
As of July 18, 2025, LostMagic does appear to be gaining a strong foothold among players interested in tactical, co-op online games with a lower barrier to entry than many of its competitors - considering that it is free.
