Mercedes will present the Mercedes GLC Electric to the public at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich. Mercedes is calling the event the "next step in its largest product offensive to date". The EV will be on display in hall B3.
New design and platform
According to Autoweek, the GLC Electric will be the first model that’s based on the MB.EA platform, which is not a traditional ICE platform. Mercedes is talking about a “new face of the brand” that supposedly is iconic, versatile, intuitive, and sleek. Part of the strategy also includes developing a consistent design language across all models.
Fully charged: A quick look at the technology of the GLC EQ
The Mercedes GLC Electric features an 800-volt architecture with silicon carbide inverters, which enables very fast DC charging at up to 320kW. In just ten minutes, the electric SUV can recharge 160 miles of range, which is long enough for a short break or a cup of coffee.
Mercedes SUV gets new design, but also more space, performance and comfort
According to Autoweek, the wheelbase has grown by about 3.1 inches, which results in more interior space and battery capacity. The battery now holds 94.5 kWh, and the trunk offers 20.1 cu ft, which can be expanded to up to 61.4 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. It also features a frunk with 4.5 cu ft of storage space. The Mercedes GLC EQ will also be offered with Airmatic air suspension known from the S-Class, which can be combined with rear steering (4.5 degrees) in the so-called "Agility & Comfort" package.
Performance & towing capacity: Plenty of power
The rear-wheel-drive version produces 340 hp, while the 4MATIC variant comes with 489 hp. An AMG version with more than 550 hp has also been announced. The GLC Electric can tow up to 5,291 pounds while offering stabilization and maneuvering assistance.
One of Mercedes’ best-selling cars
The GLC is one of Mercedes' best-selling vehicles. According to Mercedes CEO Ola Källenius, the electric GLC is therefore expected to play a decisive role in boosting EV sales starting in 2026. It is supposed to drive the company's transformation in the “Core Luxury” segment.
GLC Electric: A trendsetter for Mercedes?
For Mercedes, the GLC EQ is a very important product. It’s a stand-alone, electric reinterpretation of the bestseller with state-of-the-art technology, a new space concept and an apparently high level of driving comfort. The unveiling in September marks the beginning of an EV strategy that tries to combine design, performance, and practicality. First deliveries are expected in early 2026.
