Reviews for the MSI Megabook GX610

70% MSI GX610-008UK laptop PC
Source: PC Advisor English
The MSI GX610-008UK is a rare example of an AMD-powered laptop in an Intel world. The MSI GX610-008UK's asking price of £679 is pretty low, so if you're a gamer on a budget then it may just suffice, but in most other areas its performance is adequate rather than exemplary. The keyboard is also very cramped to use and it would be much better if the space dedicated to the numeric keypad was redistributed to the main keyboard.

Comment

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600: This is a DirectX 10 graphic card from ATI and direct competitor to the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS graphic card for laptops and performs in games much better than the Nvidia card.

These cards should be able to display all current games with fluent framerates but not all with high detail settings. Especially demanding games like Crysis, Age of Conan, or Mass Effect are only playable with lower settings. Less demanding (and older) games, like Fifa 08, Command & Conquer 3, or Battlefield 2142 can be played with higher detail levels.

15.4": 15 inch display-variants are the standard and are used for more than the half of all notebooks. 15.4 inch display with 16:10 are the standard for notebook displays. Nowadays, more and more 16:9 displays with 15.6 inch appear. The reason why so many people like displays with medium size is, that this size is not exhausting for the eyes, does not need too much energy and the laptops can be kept quite compact.
>> To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

2.6 kg: This notebook is lighter than the average of all notebooks. It is too heavy for sub-notebooks. 14 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.

MSI: Micro-Star International (MSI), is a Taiwan based computer hardware manufacturer since 1986 best known for desktop computer motherboards. MSI also designs and manufactures graphics cards, barebone PCs, notebook computers, networking products, servers, multimedia, consumer electronics, and storage devices. MSI, as most Taiwanese computer manufacturers, sells products on OEM/ODM basis. It also sells products worldwide based on its own brand name "MSI". The market share of laptops with the MSI brand is rather low.
