MSI GS75 Stealth: Ultra-flat and extreme performance with an NVIDIA RTX GPU

MSI has upgraded its gaming laptops and is taking the graphics experience to a new level with NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPUs. Firstly, we have the GS75 Stealth, which is a unique combination of streamlined design and cutting edge, powerful hardware (advertisement).
MSI GS75 Stealth

MSI has brought an unprecedented gaming experience to laptops with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 Series graphics cards. The GS75 Stealth currently spearheads the company’s line-up and offers the performance of a gaming PC but in an ultra-mobile laptop form factor. The 17.3-inch device is eye-catching too thanks to its golden accents on its hinges and fan outlets, which emphasise its sandblasted aluminium case. MSI has also included individually programmable RGB keys, which allows people to customise their device to how they like it.

The GS75 Stealth comes in three variants, all of which are equipped with an Intel Core i7-8750H processor and can accommodate up to 32 GB of RAM across their two DDR4-2666 SO-DIMM slots. MSI pre-installs either Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro depending on your needs and allows people to almost freely customise their configurations. The Taiwanese company equips all models with a 144 Hz Full HD display too to get the most from the GeForce RTX 20 series GPUs.

Case & Ports

The GS75 Stealth stands out from its competitors with its sleek design and its slim screen bezels. MSI has packed in a 17.3-inch display, despite the device only being 396 mm wide. The GS75 Stealth is also just 259 mm long and 19 mm deep, while it is surprisingly light too at 2.25 kg, which makes it pleasant to hold and transport around.

Almost half of the bottom case is covered by a grille for optimal ventilation. There are also several other grilles in the rear third of the sides and on the back of the device, which that heat dissipates rapidly. MSI has not scrimped on ports either. There is an HDMI port on the right-hand side of the case, which is flanked by two USB 3.1 Type-C ports and two USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A ports. The Type-C port closest to the HDMI port is Thunderbolt 3 too, while there is a third USB 3.1 Type-A port on the left-hand side of the case. There are also dedicated headphone and microphone jacks, a microSD card slot and Gigabit LAN to round off the GS75 Stealth’s port selection.

Display & Input Devices

All GS75 Stealth models have the same 17.3-inch Full HD display that operates natively at 1,920 x 1,080. The screen should have stable viewing angles thanks to being an IPS panel. Additionally, the display should have almost 100% sRGB colour space coverage and less than 3 ms response times. Overall, the GS75 Stealth should deliver excellent colour reproduction at a smooth 144 Hz refresh rate.

MSI has equipped the GS75 Stealth with a SteelSeries RGB keyboard that has individually lit keys and an enormous glass trackpad. The 140 x 65 mm trackpad also supports multi-finger gestures and should be large enough for most people to use comfortably.

Hardware & Performance

There are three versions of the GS75 Stealth, all of which are equipped with an Intel Core i7-8750H processor and support up to 32 GB of RAM. MSI allows people to choose between 16 or 32 GB of DDR4-2666 RAM that operates in dual-channel mode. There are also plenty of storage options, the largest of which being a 1 TB SSD RAID array. All three models have an empty SATA slot too for further increasing the storage should you need more space.

The centrepiece of every GS75 Stealth is its NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics card. MSI equips the base model with a GeForce RTX 2060 with 6 GB of GDDR6 VRAM, which increases to a GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q with 8 GB of GDDR6 VRAM for the middle configuration. The company reserves the GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q with 8 GB of GDDR6 VRAM for the most expensive model, but all three GPUs support raytracing and will comfortably handle modern triple-A titles at maximum graphics.

Connectivity & Battery Life

MSI equips the GS75 Stealth with a Killer ES2500 Gigabit LAN module and a Killer DoubleShot Pro Wi-Fi module to ensure excellent internet speeds. The 2x2 MIMO Wi-Fi module supports ac Wi-Fi, DL MU-MIMO and the 160 MHz Wi-Fi channel for up to 1.73 GBit/s download speeds. MSI also pre-installs the Killer Network Manager to allow buyers to customise and prioritise every connection for optimal network performance.

The GS75 Stealth has an 85 Wh battery that lasts up to 8 hours, according to MSI. The company includes a slim power supply that is around 28% smaller than comparable chargers, which helps make the GS75 Stealth even more portable than its competitors. The base model comes with a 180 W charger, while the GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q and GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q versions have a 230 W charger.

Speakers & Cooling System

MSI equips the GS75 Stealth with Dynaudio stereo speakers that deliver impressive sound. There are also passive radiators to support the audio output and to provide an effective bass response. The speakers and radiators combine to produce crystal-clear audio and noticeable low-end frequencies. The GS75 Stealth also supports Hi-Res Audio and has Nahimic 3 audio software pre-installed to help create an even more immersive sound experience.

The Taiwanese company has designed a new cooling system too, which is another step in the evolution of gaming laptops. All GS75 Stealth models are equipped with MSI’s Cooler Boost Trinity+ system, which includes three fans and seven heatpipes to ensure unparalleled heat transfer when the machine is pushed hard. The company has optimized design of the rotary blades that delivers increased air pressure and improves heat dissipation throughout the case.

On sale at the end of January

MSI first announced its new gaming laptops featuring NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPUs during CES 2019. All three GS75 Stealth models are now available and come with plenty of useful software. MSI includes DragonCenter 2, which gives you control of all aspects of your GS75 Stealth, and its App Player, which allows you to play mobile games on the glorious 17.3-inch display. All MSI laptops come with a two-year limited warranty and a convenient on-site pick-up & return service.
