Huawei Watch 2 leaks: sporty design with cellular chops
A sport watch that can make phone calls? It sounds like something Dick Tracy would wear while running a marathon, but that’s exactly what Huawei is working on according to Evan Blass (@evleaks). In a report from Venture Beat, the Chinese manufacturer is set to show off the wearable at MWC in a few days.
We heard rumors about the Huawei Watch 2 earlier this month. Now, some new leaked images show off a stark departure from the original Huawei Watch. While the first Watch had a classic, high-end style suitable for the boardroom, the Huawei Watch 2 is much sportier. It bears a resin band and pushers commonly seen on sport watches. Huawei may be going for a durable device with a more accessible design.
The Watch 2 will supposedly come with Android Wear 2.0, Google’s updated wearable OS. The Watch 2 will also have a slot for a nanoSIM card, allowing wearers to tap into cellular networks. This looks similar to the Watch Sport that LG recently released. It wouldn’t be surprising if Huawei was trying to directly compete with the first comer in the next wave of Android-based wearables.
Keep in mind that leaked images are not confirmation. However, Evan Blass has a pretty good track record when it comes to mobile device leaks. We’ll find out soon enough whether or not these leaks are true when Mobile World Congress starts this Monday.
