Supergiant Games announced during Nintendo's September Direct that the highly anticipated sequel will launch in its complete v1.0 form on September 25, marking the end of an extensive development journey that began with the game's surprise reveal at The Game Awards 2022.
Since entering early access in May 2024, Hades II has received substantial content updates that transformed it from a promising early build into what many consider a complete gaming experience. The game's early access phase included three major updates: The Olympic Update in October 2024, which added an entirely new region and the final weapon, The Warsong Update in February 2025, which introduced the god of war Ares and over 2,000 new voice lines, and The Unseen Update in June 2025, which completed the game's structure.
The sequel follows Princess Melinoë's battle against Chronos
Princess Melinoë's quest to stop Chronos builds upon the original's acclaimed roguelike formula while introducing meaningful mechanical changes. The sequel features two distinct paths - one through Erebus to Tartarus, and another from Ephyra to Mount Olympus - each with four unique biomes that provide varied gameplay experiences. The new "Magick Bar" system adds tactical depth, requiring players to manage magical resources that recharge through combat engagement.
Hades II platforms, price, and other release details
The game is available in two formats - digital and physical. The digital version costs $29.99, which matches its early access price point. Plus, digital purchasers can start playing immediately on September 25.
Meanwhile, the physical version costs $49.99 (currently available on Amazon), and it comes with collectibles like a full-color character compendium, a download code for the four-hour soundtrack, and reversible cover art. Plus, unlike many third-party Switch releases that use download codes, Hades II's physical edition contains the complete game on the cartridge. However, it should be noted that the physical format will be available on November 20th.
