Bold concept. It is almost insane to put a GeForce GTX 760M into a thin 14-inch notebook, but Gigabyte does it anyway and the result is surprisingly good. Read our in-depth review for all the details.

It is 33x23.5x1.8cm and weights 1765grams. This is a smaller notebook offering from Gigabyte that comes with Windows 8. Whilst I did all the necessary updates this time I resisted the offer to upgrade to Windows 8.1. I instead completed my review with just what was delivered and the updates.

The P34G v2 packs more performance into its compact chassis than any comparably portable laptop we've come across. It could be more attractive, and the display more finely calibrated, but these are small complaints. The Gigabyte P34G v2 isn't only every gamer's ideal laptop; with top-flight performance in a sub-2kg chassis, and a very reasonable price, it's a portable that deserves the attention of anyone with a need for speed.

80% Gigabyte P34G review For the price, this gaming laptop packs a powerful punch
Source: Techradar English Archive.org version
The Gigabyte P34G might not look or feel all that luxurious, but after a week with this power-packed gaming laptop, I felt spoiled by its performance. When it comes down to parts for pennies, this system goes uncontested. And that the P34G can play Titanfall at the highest settings with no problem makes me confident in its lasting power. While you won't get the flashy lights of the Alienware 14 or the slick build of the Razer Blade, you'll pay less for the same gaming experience and then some, framerate wise. You'll want to use a mouse, even when you're just poking around the web, and having a nice mechanical keyboard waiting for it on your desk wouldn't hurt either.

Gigabyte’s P34G is a superb alternative to the ultra-bulky models common in the gaming laptop world. Despite being a third lighter than, and half as thick as, Dell’s closely-comparable Alienware 14, the P34G averages just 6% lower in performance. If getting the highest performance, and running games at the best graphical settings possible, is your goal, this isn’t your laptop.

It's rare for a gaming laptop to tick all the right boxes. Performance, portability, style, battery life, the display and the keyboard are just some of the factors that typically partake in the juggling act. At first glance, Gigabyte's P34G comes close to striking all the right notes, and the specification reads like an enthusiast's dream.

Gigabyte P34G v2

This stylish 14 inch notebook looks and feels like a MacBook Air with its simple design. It has an aluminium upper side casing and a sleek plastic underside. It is powered by a high-performance Nvidia GeForce graphics card and an Intel Core i7-4700HQ (2x 2.4-3.4 GHz) and features Gigabyte's IPS Full HD screen (1920 x 1080 pixels) and backlit keyboard. The IPS technology means higher contracts, better color accuracy and viewing-angle stability. Basically, the screen allows users to view from all angles without getting the dimming effect most screens tend to have.

This 2.4 cm (0.8 inch) notebook weighs only 3.9 pounds (3 kg) and is highly mobile. It houses four USB ports and an Ethernet port to connect directly to the internet. The P34G is capable of running high efficiency games like Batman: Arkham city, Wolfenstein: The New Order and Battlefield 4 in high settings without problems. However, it's high-pitched noise emitted by the fan can be a little annoying for younger gamers.

The battery can last (without internet) for approximately 8 hours and 4 ½ hours with WiFi surfing, a big improvement compared to the Gigabyte P34G. It is in effect, a high performance, highly mobile gaming notebook that is comparable to a Razor Blade.

Speedy Gonzales. Small, fast, but without a sombrero: the v2 successor of Gigabyte's P34G little gaming machine wants to win over gamers with the new Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M, but it has not changed much in other respects. The technically well-conceived hardware is installed in the familiar casing that, unfortunately, had a few processing flaws in our sample.

Gigabyte has managed to craft an impressive gaming laptop, cramming top specs into a slim chassis that you can easily sling in your bag and take on your commute. It's not just for gamers, as it's a portable powerhouse that will serve anyone who needs plenty of grunt from their daily laptop. We just wish the build quality could be improved, as its plastic chassis screams cheap, while its fans do get awfully loud under heavy load. Still, for the price, you get plenty of muscle that will blast through anything you throw at it, all while being completely portable to boot.

Gigabyte P34G v2-CF2

The Gigabyte P34G uses an Intel Core i7 with a clock rate of up to 3.2 GHz. It has 8 GB of RAM and a 128 GB SSD drive. The storage capacity is barely enough for most gamers and they will probably need an external hard drive to make up for the lack of space.

The P34G weighs 1.7 kg and is 1.7 cm thick. Its 14 inch display is driven by an NVIDIA GeForce graphics card. The graphics performance is sufficient for running demanding games in high resolutions and better than the 2013 Razer Blade's.

The FHD (1920 x 1080) display is impressively bright and vibrant with sharp details. However, this is not a touchscreen laptop. The screen does not have much problems with viewing angles.

It has a dark grey casing that looks professional, yet a little dull. The Gigabyte P34G houses an Ethernet port, two USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI port, an SD card reader and a headphone/microphone jack. This system has an option called "Fan tweak" which allows adjusting the fans. Like most gaming laptops, it sound like a hair dryer during gaming. The battery only lasts about four hours while streaming videos and takes about two and a half hours to recharge.

If you thought gaming PCs had to be big, heavy and ugly, then think again. The Gigabyte P34G v2 can't hold a candle to most £1,000+ Ultrabooks in the battery life or looks departments, but it's a discreet and portable laptop with serious gaming power. Play recent games at decent settings no problems, and the P34G v2 will even double as an occasional portable laptop if you want too. However, it's loud as anything when you push the CPU/GPU, but the amount of power squeezed into this small and fairly light laptop is seriously impressive.

This is the latest small and powerful option from Gigabyte who are best known for their Motherboards. They do however make some rather nice powerful notebooks that may even satisfy the lust for speed of the modern gamer.

The P34G v2 finished next to last in our grueling battery rundown test, lasting just over four hours. The Razer Blade showed almost three hours more stamina. The Gigabyte P34G v2-CF2 is neither the fastest nor the flashiest gaming system you can buy. Gigabyte P34W V3

Currently, the Gigabyte P34W V3 notebook is the one of the fastest gaming notebook around. This model is powered by the high-end 2.6 Ghz Core i7-4720HQ and a GTX 970M graphic card. The RAM has a total capacity of 16 GB. The ultrathin casing does not boast a flashy design. It looks rather subdued or restrained. At the first glance, it is easy to assume that this is a regular mainstream notebook model. In terms of quality, it is a notch above the mainstream models as it feels solid and well made. Its matte high-quality AU Optronics B140HAN01.1 IPS display with a resolution of 1080p is solely focused on gaming. In the PCMark 7, the computer scores similar to other high-end and much larger gaming models and is ranked as one of the fastest lightweight gaming notebooks available. Storage-wise, it comes with a 1 TB HDD and a 128 GB SATA SSD. However, it is interesting to note that this model does not support RAID, which many larger gaming notebooks do in this price range. The 1.5 W built-in stereo speakers are standard and it lacks the bass sound, which was to be expected from a lightweight notebook. The battery life is 4.5 hours during constant WLAN use. Standard features of this model are 4x USB 3.0, an SD card reader, a built-in microphone, an HDMI port, a D-Sub port, and a built-in HD Camera.

Gigabyte P34W review – thin and light gaming beast
Source: Laptop Media English Archive.org version
It’s not just the good looks – we really liked P34’s thinness at first sight, but to be fair, we thought that it won’t be able to successfully pass our tests. It turned out that it did it, with a little reproof, though – when the CPU and the GPU are heavy loaded, they’re like little helicopters. But how could we blame Gigabyte for that when P34W weighs 1.8 kg and is 20.60 mm thick, while accommodating Intel Core i7-4720HQ and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M.

The Gigabyte's 14" frame has been kitted out with a solid gaming configuration, and its performance reflects this. It's at a cost, though.

Fifth time's the charm. The latest 14-inch refresh comes new with Skylake, DDR4, HDMI 2.0, USB Type-C, and a WQHD display option. Are these updates major enough to get users over the fence?

The Gigabyte P34W measures 34x23.5x1.5cm and weighs just under 1.8kilos. Not that long ago a 14inch notebook would be unlikely to display 1920x1080 this unit is IPS QHD (3K) which shows 2560x1440 and its quite useable. So what other features does this Intel i7 offering with Windows 10 have to offer.

GIGABYTE P34 v5 Gaming Laptop Review
Source: Tweaktown English Archive.org version
It's a fantastic machine in its own right. A monolithic block of aluminum and plastic melded together with a mix of GPU and CPU that actually makes for a potent combination. It's the perfect business machine for the connectivity alone, giving you options that many Dell or HP laptops no longer have and that some people might actually need. Not only that, but it's capable of playing nearly any game or crunching through any process you need, though within limits. Sure, it's sometimes a bit loud, can get overly warm if you're not careful and might have battery life that's bested by less expensive machines. But it's a slim package with everything you could need for a fairly good price.

The Gigabyte P34W v5 is a minor feat of engineering. It packs a robust Intel Core i7 quad-core processor and the heaviest-possible-hitting Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M graphics into a chassis barely thicker and heavier than that of the typical ultrabook. Indeed, we’re hard-pressed to apply the terms “thicker” and “heavier” to a notebook that’s just 0.82 inch thick and 3.8 pounds.

GIGABYTE P34W V5 Laptop First Impressions
Source: Tweaktown English Archive.org version
What could possibly go wrong from a laptop that checks all the right boxes? Well, sometimes it's that attractiveness that properly sells laptops, so there's that industrial quality. And the keyboard is probably a bit spongy for most people's liking. That, and bezels that are thicker than most I've seen for some time. But what if it works well enough? What if it's the reliable ol' brick of a laptop that we all get along with, but we don't like it? There's always a distinct possibility that the device we use is not quite the device we expected to use.

Well, the Gigabyte P34Wv5 is a very nice laptop with the right features and qualities in place : the usual gaming performance, NVMe SSD + HDD, good 1080p IPS display (no PWM detected by me, either, but that’s not accurate), very good keyboard, relatively rigid chassis, 16GB of RAM (from ExcaliberPC anyway), Thunderbolt 3 and small size.

60% Gigabyte P34W v5 Gaming Laptop Review

I’ll start with the positives, which mostly concern the laptop’s hardware. The choice to use an Intel Core i7-6700HQ paired with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M, up to 16 GB of RAM, and ultra-fast solid state storage was a good one at this laptop’s price point. This hardware combination is capable of playing today’s high-end PC games at 1440p using high or very high quality settings, which is exactly what you’d want out of a gaming laptop with these internals.

Gigabyte continue their medium-specced P34 line with a machine that performs well and blends in with co-workers. Although we’d like more battery time.

Gigabyte: Gigabyte Technology is a Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer founded in 1986, best known for its motherboards and graphics cards. Gigabyte offers a wide range of products including motherboards, graphics cards, laptops, monitors, systems and components. Gigabyte's laptops offer gaming and creative features on the go. Gigabyte monitors offer 4K Pro Gaming.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760M: Performance class graphics card of the GeForce GTX 700M series. Based on the Kepler architecture and manufactured by TSMC in a 28nm process.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M: Upper mid-range graphics card from the GeForce GTX 800M series.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M:

Second fastest high-end graphics card based on the Maxwell GM204 chip from the GeForce GTX 900M series.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Mobile: Mainstream graphics card based on Nvidia's Pascal architecture and successor to the GeForce GTX 960M. Is manufactured in a 14nm process at Samsung and the technical specifications are very similar to the desktop version.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

4700HQ: Haswell-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.4 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.4 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.

4710HQ: Haswell-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.5 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.5 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.

4720HQ: Haswell-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.6 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.6 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.

6700HQ: Skylake-based quad-core processor for notebooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 530 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.

Intel Kaby Lake:

i7-7700HQ: Quad-core notebook processor based on the Kaby Lake architecture. Besides four CPU cores (including Hyper Threading), the chips also integrates the HD Graphics 630 GPU and is manufactured in an improved 14 nm process.

14.00:

14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.

The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.

In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
