Silent Hill f customers in the U.S. have been voicing their frustration online over GameStop’s incredibly limited supply of the promised Steelbook pre-order bonus, leaving many who ordered the game months in advance empty-handed while scalpers on eBay continue to sell the Steelbook at exorbitant prices.
Silent Hill f was officially released on September 25, 2025, while a few copies of the game made it out into the wild as early as September 20. Collectors looking to get a piece of Silent Hill history in the making pre-ordered the game for the haunting yet beautiful Steelbook case, which was exclusively available in the U.S. via select retailers like GameStop and Amazon in the U.K.
However, as shipments of Silent Hill f were sent out last week, numerous posts flooded online, revealing that stores had limited Steelbooks in their inventories, leading players to accuse Konami and retailers of false advertising and poor planning.
One particularly frustrated customer shared their whole experience on Reddit, recounting (in verbatim) that they had “preordered from GameStop months ago and went today, just an hour after opening, and they’ve run out of all four Steelbooks they had in stock. All four. Called every GameStop in a 50-mile radius and NONE other stores received ANY shipment of Stellboxes at all."
Similarly, another commenter stated, “Everyone is getting the shaft. Stores that even got allocation were at like 10% or less compared to the original pre-order number."
Apart from Reddit, similar stories have flooded X, where users reported that stores only had a measly two or three Steelbooks apiece, regardless of the high demand. To make matters all the more interesting, a GameStop employee anonymously chimed in and confirmed the whole ordeal, stating:
“I work at GameStop. We got a total of nine Steelbooks… for 30+ preorders.” But that’s far from the end of the story, as one location with 25 pre-orders reportedly received no Steelbook units."
Adding insult to injury, customers who preordered the game online were supposed to pick up the Steelbook in person, as neither Best Buy nor Amazon U.S. has the physical Steelbook preorder bonus.
Furthermore, scalpers wasted no time to capitalize on the shortage, with untouched Silent Hill f Steelbooks selling for $90–120 with no disc included in the listing.
