FiiO has launched the FT13 closed-ear headphones with South American purplewood earcups for the enjoyment of high-resolution music.
The CNC-machined earcups are coated with a high-gloss lacquer, then mounted on a lambskin-covered magnesium alloy frame with ball-bearing sliders and a three-axis swivel. Behind them sits sound-absorbing cotton and sound-dissipating chambers and tubes that create a -26 dB passive noise reduction, according to FiiO test results.
The 60 mm birch wood drivers infused with carbon fiber threads and wool fibers produce a rich sound with improved treble detail, according to the company. This allows the headphones to cover a frequency range of 7 Hz to 40 kHz with a sensitivity of 113 dB at 32 ohms. Contoured lambskin and suede earpads are included for further tuning of the audio reproduction.
The audio signal to the drivers is delivered through 500 Furukawa monocrystalline copper conductors and 500 silver-plated oxygen-free conductors woven together into an eight-stranded cable. The former helps improve the reproduction of the mid and low frequencies while the latter aids in the reproduction of the high frequencies and an expansive soundstage, according to the company. The cable comes with detachable plugs and adapters, allowing the FT13 to be connected to 3.5 mm, 4.4 mm, 6.35 mm, and XLR-4 jacks.
The FiiO FT13 purplewood headphones have an MSRP of $329.99 and are available on Amazon in natural purple or black with a Yaoli linen storage bag.
