Discord gives its mobile app major redesign and usability upgrades
The Discord mobile app has received a major visual and UI overhaul based on users’ feedback. The newly redesigned app will have a permanent tab, a better-functioning search box, an enhanced view of group details, new themes, and much more.
The most prominent change would be the new tab that will be permanently etched to the bottom. From here, users would be able to access servers, messages, notifications, and ‘you.’
Further, messaging in Discord has also received a refresh. Users can now swipe to reply, quickly edit images before sending, share media files easily, and send voice notes. Along with this, voice and video calls have also received a makeover. The notifications will now be better organized in a style similar to Instagram and get auto-cleared once viewed.
The update will also introduce a new theme - Midnight Black, which is pure black, and the ‘You’ tab will be customizable. Discord mentioned that it has made the dark theme darker to go easy on the eyes and save battery.
In addition to the aesthetic and usability upgrades, the app’s performance has also been tweaked. As per the announcement, the app has reduced its open time by 43% on iOS and by 55% on Android. The app has also seen a considerable decline in its crash rate and is now much more stable.
