The system is functional but best serves those that need specific features.

Archive.org versionThe Dell Inspiron 14 is a no frills budget portable laptop. I can’t find a lot wrong with it for the price. The major complaints would be the fact there are no newer digital output ports such as HDMI, no status indicator lights other than power, the look is pretty plain and finally if you configure a Core 2 Duo processor the price quickly jumps. Positives include that the weight and size are good and you get an optical drive and media card reader that are missing from the more expensive studio 14z. If you’re considering the Dell Inspiron 14 you should also check out reviews of the HP dv4t 14-inch laptop and Dell Studio 14z 14-inch laptop.

Archive.org versionSolid and reliable-feeling, the Dell Inspiron 14 5000 (5482) could be a winner with people who want a decent workhorse laptop that they can customise to meet their specific storage and memory needs. If you want something primarily for writing or video work, then the cheaper Optane-enhanced HDD option might benefit you, and there’s a dedicated GPU offering there which might be especially useful for editing work – though we don’t have an idea about colour space coverage or temperature, so that’s a little harder to call right now.

However, what gave us the biggest enjoyment was the battery life of this sucker. With its larger than average 51Wh battery pack, we were able to get more than 16 hours of Web browsing and around 15 hours and a half of video playback. This is a huge improvement over its predecessor, despite the latter got pretty decent results, as well.

Unfortunately, we were not satisfied with this laptop. There are a lot of promising things about it, like the great input devices, including the keyboard, touchpad, and touchscreen. Also, it comes with a bundled Pen inside the box. However, the base version is very limiting. It only comes with 4GB of RAM and the Core i3-1115G4. Thankfully, you can upgrade the memory via two SODIMM slots, so it’s not the end of the world.

This notebook is certainly good for basic tasks like sending emails, browsing the internet, and watching films. Yes, you can use the laptop for serious tasks like editing photos or light videos. I just feel Dell could have done a better job with the battery life. But I can’t entirely blame Dell. I think part of the blame is on Intel too. That said, there is nothing wrong with the Dell Inspiron 14 (5406) 2-in-1. It’s very much a polished notebook that won’t make you embarrassed when you take it to a cafe.

Definitely. The Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 is an excellent notebook if you want a well-designed and reliable machine that gets the job done. It’s great for content consumption, has a solid keyboard and speakers, runs a full desktop operating system in the form of Windows 11, supports a stylus, and the computer feels fast. This is a mainstream 2-in-1 with the respectable build quality and acceptable hardware. Of course, it’s not a perfect laptop but still, it’s a great convertible Windows machine in the sub-Rs 75,000 price range.

The Dell Inspiron 14 (5410) 2-in-1 is a premium convertible laptop at a decent price. If you don't need the 2-in-1 functionality, Dell also has a standard Inspiron 14 on offer, with slight variations in the specifications. The Inspiron 14 (5410) 2-in-1 offers excellent build quality, a comfortable keyboard, a bundled stylus (with some configurations), a responsive touchscreen, and relatively low weight. Battery life isn't great, the trackpad could have been more responsive, and the maximum display brightness isn't as high as I would have liked. Dell has some stiff competition in the form of the HP Pavilion X360, which is another 2-in-1 laptop with very similar specifications and pricing.

For gaming enthusiasts, Dell's Alienware brand is for gaming notebooks.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Onboard (shared Memory) GPU built in the GM45, GE45 and GS45 chipset (Montevina). Because of two more shaders and a higher core clock, much faster than the old GMA X3100. Still not advisable for gamers (DirectX 10 games not playable or only with very low settings). The integrated video processor is able to help decode HD videos (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2) , e.g., for a fluent Blu-Ray playback with slow CPUs.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel Pentium Dual Core: The return of the name Pentium, though it is a Yonah core. In fact, it is a double Core processor with a very good relation of performance to current consumption.
T4200:
Entry class dual core CPU with 1 MB level 2 cache and no virtualization technology. Compared to the Core 2 Duo line, some power saving mechanism are deactivated.
Intel Core i5:
i5-8265U: Whiskey Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Kaby Lake but produced in a further improved 14nm++ process). The four cores are clocked between 1.6 and 3.9 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading.
Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. i7-8565U: Whiskey Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Kaby Lake but produced in a further improved 14nm++ process). The four cores are clocked between 1.8 and 4.6 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading.
Intel Core i3:
i3-8145U: Whiskey Lake based low power dual-core processor (technically identical to Kaby Lake but produced in a further improved 14nm++ process). The two cores are clocked between 2.1 and 3.9 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading.
Intel Kaby Lake Refresh:
i5-8250U: Kaby-Lake-Refresh based low power quad-core processor. The four cores are clocked between 1.6 and 3.4 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading. The integrated GPU is clocked between 300 and 1,100 MHz. The SoC is manufactured in a 14nm+ FinFET process.
Intel Comet Lake:
i7-10510U: Comet Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Whiskey Lake and still produced on 14nm++). The CPU cores can clock between 1.8 and 4.9 GHz (all 4 cores 4.3 GHz max.) with HyperThreading (8 threads). The integrated memory controller supports DDR4-2666 and using cTDP up/down the performance can be adjusted by the OEM (10 - 25 Watt possible, 15W default).
i5-10210U: Comet Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Whiskey Lake and still produced in 14nm++). The CPU cores can clock between 1.6 and 4.2 GHz (all 4 cores 3.9 GHz max.) with HyperThreading (8 threads). The integrated memory controller supports LPDDR4-2933 and using cTDP up/down the performance can be adjusted by the OEM (10 - 25 Watt possible, 15W default). Compared to the faster i5-10510U, the level 3 cache was reduced from 8 to 6 MB.
Intel Ice Lake:
i5-1035G1: A low-power, Ice Lake family processor (SoC) featuring 4 cores, 8 threads, 6 MB of L3 cache and the UHD G1 (32 EUs) iGPU. This Core i5 saw the light of day in H2 2019; it is designed for use in highly portable consumer laptops. The CPU cores run at 1.0 GHz to 3.6 GHz. The Sunny Cove microarchitecture that is in use here is notable for several improvements over Skylake including support for new technologies, new instruction sets and fast LPDDR4-3733 RAM. There is no PCIe 4 support here, however.
i7-1065G7: Ice Lake-based quad-core processor for thin and light laptops. The four cores are clocked at 1.3 GHz to 3.9 GHz and should offer 18% more IPC (instructions per clock) than the previous generations (and therefore partly close the clock speed gap). Produced on first-gen 10 nm Intel process.
Intel Tiger Lake:
i5-1135G7: A quad-core, mid-range processor of Tiger Lake product family designed for use in ultra-light laptops. The i5 is manufactured on Intel's second-gen 10 nm process marketed as SuperFin and features an 80 EU Iris Xe G7 iGPU. Core i5-1135G7 has a base clock speed of 2.4 GHz as long as it is allowed to consume 28 watts.
i5-11300H: Tiger Lake (H35 series) based mid range SoC for thin and light gaming laptops and workstations. The four CPU cores clock with 2.6 - 3.1 GHz base clock (28 - 35 W TDP) and up to 4.4 GHz Boost clock. The integrated G7 GPU offers 80 EUs at 400 - 1,300 MHz.

14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
