Careful with the affordable variant: Convertible laptop Lenovo IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 shows risks of cheaper configurations

Convertible laptops are not affordable, and models with AMD CPUs can be hard to find. This combination makes the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14AKP10 an attractive choice. The 2-in-1 laptop, which we recently reviewed, combines the convertible functions including a pen and touchscreen with AMD Ryzen AI CPUs of the Zen5 generation. The model that we tested contained a high quality OLED screen - all of that for just €1,000. For students, it is even more affordable.
However, one should beware of turning up the savings to eleven. While the IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 is a rather affordable Lenovo laptop, there is an even cheaper variant. Lenovo has it for just €900 in Germany for everyone, not just for students.
This cheaper model should not be in the running for one simple reason - not the AMD Ryzen AI 5 340, which is present in this one, but the screen. While we tested a model with OLED, Lenovo puts an IPS panel in the more affordable model. This screen is not only less bright, but it also has a horrible color gamut coverage as well as the other disadvantages of the LCD technology, like the lower contrast.
We only recommend the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14 Gen 10 when configured with the great OLED screen. Sometimes, it is better not to be too stingy and rather spend a bit more, as a great screen is one of the most important aspects about a laptop.
