IFA 2013 | Asus announces the X102BA ultraportable notebook

The X102BA brings a multi-touch display and an AMD A-Series processor to a netbook sized device

Asus introduced the X102BA along with a whole list of new products at IFA in Berlin. The new notebook packs a surprising number of features into its 10-inch frame.

The X102BA features a 10.1-inch 1366 x 768 10-point multi-touch display, a 1 GHz AMD A4-1200 dual-core processor, Radeon HD 8180 graphics, Windows 8, a USB 3.0 port, 802.11 n wifi, Bluetooth 4.0, and a multi-touch touchpad.

There's no word on RAM, internal memory, or battery life, but the specs we have so far look pretty functional and should certainly make this machine a lot snappier than most in its category. Also, because the X102BA comes in under 11 inches, it benefits from Microsoft's free Office Home & Student 2013. The touchscreen, which Asus claims is particularly sensitive, is also an unexpected bonus and certainly adds to the device's appeal.

While we don't see many products this size these days (possibly because of the association with netbooks and their sluggish performance) the form factor certainly offers a number of advantages as a secondary computer. This latest product from Asus could be a good option for anyone who needs portability but can't afford to spend a small fortune on a high-end ultrabook.

Pricing and availability for the Asus X102BA have not yet been announced.
