Reviews for the Asus U6V
60% ASUS "Bamboo" U6V-2P048G: not as cool as a Thundercats T-shirt
Source: APC Mag
The bamboo is an interesting experiment in notebook building, using a material we’d never expected to see in a laptop. Sadly, based on our expert committee of fashionistas, combined with our tinkering under the wood, the Bamboo is best left as an experiment rather than your new laptop. A select few, who absolutely must have a laptop that looks totally unlike all others, might buy the Bamboo just to be different, but for the rest of us, it’s not a very wood, errr, good buying decision.

All in all, the Asus U6V-A1 is not a bad notebook. For media, its weak speakers prevent it from being a great choice, but if you want a compact notebook that can handle everyday tasks and maybe some light gaming, the U6V makes for a fairly attractive package.

80% Australian first review - ASUS U6 Bamboo (U6V-2P048G)

They keyboard is nicely spaced with large enough keys to type on over extended periods of time.
Above the keyboard is a Power4Gear button and there’s a shortcut to the Webcam, which is built into the top of the screen. Unfortunately we found that the screen’s viewing angles are a little sub-par and the speakers aren’t the best around. They’re still ok for watching movies in bed, but not much more.4 von 5, Leistung gut, Display mangelhaft

Priced at $1,649, the ASUS U6V is a dependable and stylish ultraportable that has enough oomph to keep things running smoothly, whether you’re blowing through spreadsheets or engaged in light gaming. Although we would’ve liked more business-minded security features and a 3G connection, the U6V is a compelling option for the business traveler who wants a fashionable, well-rounded machine. Just be sure to charge that second three-cell battery or splurge for the optional nine-cell battery if you want to do work from coast to coast.

The ASUS U6 ultraportable got a significant upgrade from the U6S to U6V series. Performance has improved thanks to the new Montevino platform with increased memory and storage space. The addition of an eSATA port for external storage is also a great addition. This is definitely one of the fastest ultraportables on the market.

It all comes down to money. If you can afford it, the £1,350 Asus U6V-2P001E probably won't disappoint. It's fairly stylish and a great performer - just keep in mind its excellent battery life (using the eight-cell) comes at the price of some of that style and portability.

NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS: Compared to the 9300M G, the GS has only 8 unified shaders but a higher clock rate. Therefore, the performance should be similar according to Nvidia. Supports
Hybrid-SLI (GeForceBoost and HybridPower) with Nvidia 9100M G and PureVideo HD (VP3).
Lower end of Graphics Cards for users who want to play games. New games should run on these cards, but only with decreased details and mediocre resolution.

12.1": This is the most common display format for subnotebooks and an average size for subnotebooks.
The advantage is, that the subnotebook can be small dimensioned and can be carried easily. Further the tiny display has the advantage, that it needs less power, which improves the battery runtime and in consequence the mobility. The disadvantage is that reading of texts is very exhausting vor the eyes. High resolutions can hardly be used.

1.6 kg: This sub-notebook weighs less than the average of all notebooks and represents a medium class of weight among the sub-notebooks. 11 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.
