15" Retina MacBook owners experiencing fan noise problems
Apple, just like every other company out there, equips their laptops with a handful of parts from multiple manufacturers. Most recently, it was discovered that the new 15" Retina MacBook Pro laptops contained Sandisk solid-state drives on the inside, and those SSDs may be giving some users headaches.
In a 27-page (and counting) thread on Apple's support forums, multiple users have been complaining about extremely loud fan noises emitting from their Retina MacBook Pros, even under light CPU load. The noise appears to last for several minutes before returning to a baseline level, but users are justifiably upset. Of course, there is no evidence that the Sandisk SSDs are the actual culprit, but the issue seems to exclusively affect those particular Retina notebooks while sparing others.
On their end, Apple has neither acknowledged nor denied the presence of any problem, and their staff has had mixed responses. Some users have reported being turned away when exploring the issue, while others have received up to 8 replacement machines with no solution found. We'll have to see whether Apple is able to provide a fix in the upcoming weeks, but until then you can check out the annoying fan noise for yourself in the video below.
