The NVIDIA GeForce 410M is an entry level dedicated laptop graphics card. It is based on the GF119 core, which is related to the Fermi architecture. Compared to the GT 520M that is based on the same chip, the 410M is slower clocked. Both support DirectX 11 and OpenGL 4.0.
Performance
The rendering power of the GeForce 410M is similar to the integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000. However, due to better driver support and the dedicated memory, some games (like Dirt3 and Fifa 11) did run faster in our tests - see benchmarks below.
Features
Like the 500M series, the GeForce 410M supports Bitstream HD Audio (Blu-Ray) output via HDMI. That means the card is able to transfer Dolby True HD and DTS-HD bitstream-wise without quality loss to a HiFi receiver.
The 410M offers the PureVideo HD technology for video decoding. The included Video Processor 4 (VP4) supports feature set C and therefore the GPU is able to fully decode MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 Part 2 (MPEG-4 ASP - e.g., DivX or Xvid), VC-1/WMV9, and H.264 (VLD, IDCT, Motion Compensation, and Deblocking).
Furthermore, the GPU is able to decode two 1080p streams simultaneously (e.g. for Blu-Ray Picture-in-Picture).
Through CUDA, OpenCL, and DirectCompute 2.1 support, the GeForce GT 410M can be of help in general calculations. Furthermore, physics calculations can be theoretically done by the GPU using PhysX (e.g. supported by Mafia 2 or Metro 2033) but the performance wont be sufficient for this.
With rumored 15 Watt TDP, the 410M is also suited for small laptops. However, the integrated Intel HD 3000 needs less power.
The Nvidia GeForce 405M is an entry level laptop graphics card and technically a renamed GeForce 310M / 315M. Therefore, it is based on the old G2xx architecture and related to the GeForce G210M with slightly altered clock speeds.
The performance of the 405M is similar to the GeForce G 210M and therefore located in the entry level class. Older demanding 3D games like COD Modern Warfare 2 run only in low details and resolutions fluently. Some demanding games like NFS Shift or GTA4 wont run fluently at all. Less demanding games like SIMS 3 run in medium details and resolutions fluently. Therefore, the graphics card can not be recommended for gamers. Compared to modern integrated graphics cards from AMD and Intel, the Geforce 405M performs much worse and is therefore only suited for old Pentium processors. For detailed gaming benchmark, including some modern games like Call of Duty MW3 or Anno 2070 visit the graphics card page of the similar GeForce G210M.
The card supports DirectX 10.1 and all the features of the G 210M (as it should be based on the same GT218 core). Therefore PureVideo HD to decode HD videos with the graphics card is supported. The used Video Processor 4 (VP4) is able to fully decode H.264, VC-1, MPEG-2, and also MPEG-4 ASP (DivX or xVID) in hardware to minimize CPU load. MPEG-1 is not supported but can be easily handled by every modern CPU.
As the 310M supports CUDA, DirectX Compute 10.1, and OpenCL, the shaders of the graphics processor can be used for other tasks than rendering images (e.g. faster encoding of videos).
The used GT218 core is manufactured in 40nm and based on the desktop GTX 200 architecture.

Game Benchmarks
The following benchmarks stem from our benchmarks of review laptops. The performance depends on the used graphics memory, clock rate, processor, system settings, drivers, and operating systems. So the results don't have to be representative for all laptops with this GPU. For detailed information on the benchmark results, click on the fps number.
